30$ Wagyu Beef Sandwich

I had an extra ribeye wagyu steak that I cooked on the egg last weekend (SWMBO was already full after a just a few bites). I sliced it thin and we made a pita wrap with it for diner last night. Thin slices of wagyu beef, iceberg letuce, caramelized onions, chedar cheese, spicy pickles and dijon mustard wrapped in a pita bread. This was awesome.

    @cookingdude555‌ @cazzy‌ @texaswig‌ @SGH‌

    Thanks! This was really good. I usually don't keep leftover steaks (I freeze them for my mother's dogs) but this will change. I am getting spoiled by all this Costco wagyu beef. I don't know what I'll do when they stop selling it (and they will).

  • Maybe a dumb question but what is WAGYU beef? Is it like Tri-Tips you can't get in Fla? Thanks in advance...

    Wagyu literally translates to "Japanese Cow" as it were. However today it is often slain by stock breeders and cross breeders. Nonetheless true Wagyu still exists in it's almost true form. For all practical purposes it's a Japanese bovine strain bred and created to be of near perfect genetics for producing extreme marbling from near head to hoof. While the meat is no doubt top tier and without equal, one is forced to question the claim of near perfect genetics by breeding alone. The origin of the breed is open to much speculation and debate. While the meat is about as good as one could hope for, the question of genetically modified begs to be answered. Case in point: Perfect genetics has been erroneously used before by Russian athletes. In the 1950's when they were shattering all powerlifting records the claim was that these men were "bred" to be genetically superior. A simple blood test by American physician Dr. John Ziegler shed some light on these so called superior genetics. All tested positive for massive doses of Testosterone Suspension and human growth hormone that was extracted from the pituitary glands of human cadavers. One is forced to wonder if Wagyu beefs superior genetics falls into this realm as well. Nonetheless the meat is outstanding and in a class all of it's own. Sorry I rambled. It's late, I'm bored and I have been off of my medicine for 3 days. I get a little long winded when I'm not sedated.

  • @Sixpack1 - Wagyu can be thought of as a grade of beef for most of us. Consider the usual grades available as Select, Choice, Prime - priced from lowest to highest. Wagyu can be thought of as another five grades above Prime. It is often hard to find and very expensive.

    @Sixpack1‌ - It is the same breed of cow that gives Kobe beef. The marbling is unbelievable. My local Costco currently sells ribeye and striploin at the price of regular tenderloin at my butcher so I can afford it but it is typically a lot more expensive... It has a super rich flavor (some describe it as buttery) and it is unbelievably tender.

    It is said that the cows drink beer, are getting massages and listen to classical music...

    Not sure what I'll do when they stop selling it...
