I'm running low on the fire starter "bricks". Have used the generic brand that my local BGE carries as well as the BGE branded ones. Anyone have a good source for a new supply for me?

Paper towel and vegetable oil, works great.

^^ did that yesterday. I ran out of propane for my torch. Worked great.

There are Rutland branded ones on Amazon. Exactly the same thing. Weber makes some as well that I like.I use a Map torch which is quick and also cheap. There is an initial investment of around 50 bucks because you have to get the torch attachment but the canisters last a long time and are around 10 bucks each. I am on my first one still(it's been over 1 year). You can use isopropyl alcohol or or the oil and napkin trick too.

Ace sells Rutland branded stuff. Identical to BGE cubes. 144 @ $17 or 24 @ $3.79.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I use the little paraffin cubes from Weber, but when those run out I'm going to try paper towel and vegetable oil.Lubbock, TXLarge BGE

I have had excellent results placing one of the BGE/Rutland blocks on end beneath my chimney to get things started.

Rutland cubes from amazon. Work great and no mess. Can't be bothered to get messy with oil. Tried the alcohol on cotton balls and couldn't figure out why my fingers were burning from the alcohol until I noticed the blue flame glowing on my fingers.Large BGE - Jupiter, FL

A shovelful of coals from the outdoor wood furnace here. I heat the house and water with it in the winter and the water in the summer, so a fire is always going. But I'm weird.

I use The Prodigy.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

I have seen the Rutland ones on Amazon and was thinking of buying. May check out my local Ace and compare price. Firing up the BGE tonight so I'll give the vegetable oil on paper towel trick. Always have those things on hand.
Thanks all for the tips.Large (sometimes wish it were an XL) in KS -
If you have a Tractor Supply Co. near you they carry the Rutland brand as well.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

I love how these threads start out semi serious and then we have battle ships starting the egg.

My option is the old electric coil, i have power within a foot of my egg, so not even an extension cord. $13 over five years ago, still doing its job (It fired briquettes before the egg came home).Oil and paper towel is a very good option, and can be virtually free. Save some slightly soiled napkins and the old oil that has seen its day after schnitzel or deep frying. This stuff normally hits the trash can.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

I tried the electric coil when I first got my egg and after the 3rd one in a year I ditched that option. It may be because I left them in too long, the coil would break after a couple months._________________________________________________Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story!Large BGE 2006, Mini Max 2014, 36" Blackstone, Anova Sous Vide

My wife makes mine for me. She takes little cotton disks (makeup removers) and dips about 2/3 of it in melted candle wax. She can make about 120 for $2.00.Sarasota, FL via Boynton Beach, FL, via Sarasota, FL, via Charleston, SC, via The Outer Banks, via God's Country (East TN on Ft. Loudon Lake)

Tractor Supply carries them as well. Price varies through out the year from 9.99 thru 12.99 for the 144 pack. I try to catch them on sale and buy every box they have on the shelf.Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

I use the Rutlands too. One cube cut into 1/4s Use 4 - 1/4s to start a fire. Roughly $.12 per cook. I can handle that any day-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky.

@Mattman3969 how do you cut them? If the Rutlands are similar to the BGE ones I can't imagine cutting them with anything less than a hacksaw.
@Eggbertsdad I like that idea.Large (sometimes wish it were an XL) in KS -
