Happy to hear your son is OK, he will never be completely the same. Keep an eye on him, more than usual, over the next few months.
As you noted the drunk driver had no real grasp of the situation he had caused, victims like your son are left to do the understanding for everyone.
    Take care.

Almost as bad, is texting & driving.  Just saw in the news locally, a teen hit a off duty officer's truck head on :(

  • Go ahead and preach.  It's a sermon we need to hear every now and then.  Glad no one was hurt.  Fortunately I also learned this lesson early in life and count myself lucky that A) No one was hurt and B) It was long ago before DD laws became as strict as they really should be.  One beer OK, two beers, hand over the car keys,

    Yowzah. Glad everyone is ok.

I wrestled keys from a friend a few months ago. He wasn't too pleased. Last week he got pulled and blew a .30. Hoping he gets some help...

I'm thankful your Son is okay. Many moons ago in my 20s I think I may have driven intoxicated (more times than I can possibly remember). I'm not proud of it and I can recollect it not really being that big of a deal socially &/or LEO wise at that time. I never wrecked or got a DUI (definitely would've deserved it). The final straw was when I parked my ride in the backyard and woke up thinking somebody stole it (at the time I lived in a not so good area of Jacksonville). Found it of course engine still running and vomit all over! Not cool! I'm 42 now and thank God I'm able to tell my stupid story. Now days I'll kick back at home or with the wife at a pub etc but, I won't drive even after 1 drink. And we NEVER go out on the holidays that are typical of drunk drivers being out. I'm a safe, courteous and defensive driver. And we've taught our Son to be as well. Again not proud just my story. Again glad your Son is SAFE and sound.

Sadly it's still somewhat acceptable here... The province's population is rather disbursed and there is a ton of wheat farming, so people will get loaded and drive around in the country.

Until I got clean and sober 7 years ago I was driving under some level of intoxication 99% of the time.  I kept a bottle of Maker's Mark under the back seat of my truck and would take a pull or two before I left my office parking lot every afternoon........sad sad sad.  Only by the Grace of God that I never killed myself or someone else.  @SGH - Glad your son is OK.

I don't drink much at all any more. The few times that I do take a drink I absolutely do not drive. If i so much as take a sip my tail is planted in a chair outside on the porch. If the desire to drive arises I get on my John Deere tractor and ride around on my personal property. That's it. I will not drive. Why? If some thing was to happen I could not live with myself if I had any amount of alcohol in my system and someone got hurt. I'm not against drinking. But there is just no excuse for putting other innocent peoples lives at risk. Like most people I have drove while under the influence. It's been over 50 years since I done it. I'm older and wiser now and regret that I ever did it. I'm thankful that I never hurt anyone. Just my thoughts and opinions my friends.

Yes. My job requires a clean driving record and it's simply not worth the risk. Here in FL LEO can use breathalyzer but, can also use their own judgement. Meaning you may pass a field sobriety test and breathalyzer but, LEO could still deem a driver intoxicated even with only having one drink. How often does this actually happen (not often).

I have made several embarrassing, regrettable, beyond stupid, mistakes with drinking and driving. 1 is too many and I've very idiotically made more than that. Two positives that have come from it is 1) no one has ever been hurt 2) I've finally learned.

It's by far the dumbest thing can do because so easily avoidable and so dangerous. I guess I'm lucky because I have never been in trouble either. Even once stopped at 2am drunk and underage I didn't get in trouble.

It's one thing in life I'll be incredibly hypocritical about with my son. I'll never drink and drive again. One day it just hit me how lucky I am and how many times I've been lucky. It's insane to think about the things that have happened to me drinking and driving and for there to have been zero consequences. Beyond lucky. Now I know better and the biggest consequence is how ashamed and embarrassed I feel when I think of it.

With the 4th of July coming up this weekend I just wanted to say to everyone stay safe my friends. It doesn't take but a split second for things to go wrong. Keep a close eye on your family and friends and enjoy the holiday. This happened to my son a few weeks back. He was hit by a uninsured drunk driver. Don't let something like this ruin your holiday or even worse your life. Happy 4th of July to all. imageimageimage

@SGH‌ True Dat! Enjoy yourself just make sure to have a DD or a cab. Me personally we stay home simply because there are statistically more drunks on the roads during holidays like this one. Have a happy a safe Independence Day y'all :)

So glad all ok. Bet some of you can remember driving w/o seat belts in the car/truck and your right arm resting on the cooler. Way to dumb in those days to think something bad could happen to you. But that is just how it was (at least in my part of Texas). Now I am not talking driving drunk, just a beer or two among friends on a drive around the lake. So damn glad I lived to grow up.
