Also, meant to say that the spider seems to be the only way to drop the grid for a sear. One more reason I'll probably go all in and purchase this too... Won't be the cheapest purchase, but know it will bring me years of enjoyment. Plus, seem like good folks over there to support.

If you get a spider consider this grate here for searing as it is excellent. Only draw back is it's only 10 1/2 in diameter. It's porcelain enameled cast iron. I was skeptical at first but it has held up well. Only 25 bucks at Walmart. For the money you can't beat it.

@bettysnephew - I'm afraid this falls into the yes you can, but not sure I understand why.  Maybe a couple pictures will help.  In the first picture, the Woo is sitting on the Plate setter, so the grid will be raised.  In the second one, the Plate Setter is sitting on the woo - legs up.  Does this help?  I don't know.

@tksmoke  Thanks for the pix.  Primarily I would use it for raised direct, but thought if it worked with the platesetter it would be a good way to get a pizza stone higher in the dome for more even radiant cooking of the top ingredients.  It looks like it would do that very well.

@Bushmat1‌ First let me say I have and use both. They are both great pieces of equipment. As of late I find myself using the Woo more than than the AR. Not saying it's better but it suites my style of cooking more often than not. Let me explain. I'm a collect the juices type of guy. I found some 16 inch 2 inch deep pans that are excellent for this purpose. They sit perfect on the plate setter below the grid and will hold about two gallons of liquid. Also the 16 inch pan gives you all the indirect coverage that you can get in a large egg without suffocating the fire. Removing the pan full of liquid is a snap with the handles on the Woo. Spillage is nonexistent due to the plate setter providing full support of the pan. You can't go wrong with either but if you already have a plate setter the Woo would make more sense. Mine started off as a Woo 3 but I removed the bottom ring thus turning it into a Woo 2. I find the spider to be more beneficial than the bottom ring on the Woo. Again this is just my thoughts and I hope this helps my friend. Oh another thing that I like better about the Woo is it will hold the full size grid at gasket level. The AR will not. If you want to use the full size grid on the AR you must us it at the very highest point and then you start running into head room issues with the large subprimals and large whole poultry. Just some food for thought depending on how and what you like to cook my friend.
@SGH I use a Woo2 also and I like the 16 1/2 inch pan in your pics. May I ask where you got it?

I bought the R&B combo with the extender and an extra oval grid last week.  On Mother's Day weekend on my large egg, I cooked 4 spatchcocked chickens at one time!  I had an issue with my temp but the chickens came out fine and were done in about 1 1/2 hours.  I am interested in grilling ribs, turkeys, chickens, pizzas, or combo stuff like baked potatoes, corn, and some type of meat all at the same time.  That's why I wanted the sliding grids.  However, if you intend on doing pork butts, then I believe you will need the spider because you'll want to get the food cooking lower in the egg than what you will get with the AR.  I'm pretty sure that's what Tom said.  Good luck with your purchase!  I ended up calling twice before I ordered too.  One word of caution - maybe start with the most basic set-up you think you can get away with.  That way you don't buy something you'll end up not using and you'll figure out what you need by mastering the pieces you have.  I'm sure that I'll be making another purchase, but that's down the road.

I had the exact same delimna as OP posted and I went with the woo2 for the Xl and a grid with it.  I can drop it low for close, I can put the woo2 on top of my existing xl grid and do a double level, with or without the placesetter.  I even put the pizza stone on the woo2 which was on top of the existing grid to elevate the pizza stone.

I may get the AR eventually but for now, I can do indirect and two levels with the woo2.

The woo2 as seen in my photo above can do the same task as a spider.  There is no need for the extra purchase in my opinion.

Hate to ambush someone elses thread but noticed you have an XL and a Woo2.  Will the BGE platesetter fit in the Woo2 as it does in the Woo for the large?  I have BGE pizza stones I could use for indirect if it will not fit, but  hoped the PS would still work.
I have the same set up and it works great.  The lid closed with the pizza stone on top of woo on top of the grid and placesetter (legs down).

Question for Woo owners. Can you place the Woo on top of the plate setter (legs down) to get an even more elevated cooking surface?
    I can.
