Lowe's ad for May 1st thru 7th shows Royal Oak Star Grill Lump Charcoal, 8Kg bag on sale for buy one get one free with a $14.98 price. Works out to $7.49 for an 8Kg bag. (for our American cousins thats 35.2# for $14.98)

Don't know if the same price is honoured across the country.

NO!!!  I'm definitely not buying any more lump!!  And that settles it.  Fortunately, I don't think Lowe's in the USofA carries RO.

You know, given the current exchange rate of about $1.12CDN to buy $1US, this works out to about $13.38US for two 17.6# bags - $6.69US for a 17.6 bag is actually pretty good price. I think I paid that last year for an 8.8# bag.

Thanks for the heads up. This is the same deal they ran on Canada Day weekend 2 or 3 years in a row.  btw. although it says BOGO their cash register is actually programmed to charge $7.49 per bag. SWMBO just mentioned about hearing Lowe's radio commercial, so hopefully the deal is nation wide.

Going to check it out tomorrow in store.  Last year I took advantage of free shipping by UPS, never again because some of the bags were ripped and smashed.

Is this BC flyer?  Keeping my fingers crossed.

Don't know if it is going cheap or just being smart. There are some cooks that good lump is required for, others not so much. Since using Maple Leaf/Basques for pizza, I find RO is a bit too strong on the wood fire flavour. For burgers, wings and butts, RO is just fine. Last night's hobo pack veggies and dry rubbed pork tenderloin were done with RO. I prefer ML for steaks and chops and of course grilled Romaine.

OT - just about ready to attack the toasters, one of them has screwed on plug (i.e. non oem) so I can remove the plug and screw the wires directly into the dryer receptacle, stay tuned!

Royal Oak isn't horrible. It sparks and smokes more but it's ok if you let it burn a while. Great for clean burns.

Just played with their website.  Product page shows $14.98 regular price but shopping basket shows promo price of $7.49, so it's 50% off although ad says BOGO.  btw, no more free shipping though, LOL

Thanks for the heads up @Canugghead. I just ordered some through their on-line site. They also have an option for store pick-up; so I don't have to worry about them running out. I'll just head over there this evening on my way home from work and load up.

Picked up 15 bags, there were two full pallets at the Maple location.  My hoard is now back to about 35 bags of assorted brands, should be good for a while.

@TexanOfTheNorth - yes store pick up is still free.  It was ridiculous when they shipped them free to me last year, half the brown truck was filled with bulky cheap lumps!

Damn, after starting this thread, SWMBO advised I was allowed 4 bags, end of story. After hitting the garage and taking inventory she informed/asked me "You have 2 large bags of Basque Sugar Maple, 7 large bags of Maple Leaf, 1 large orange bag of Royal Oak, 4 large blue bags of Royal Oak and 5 small blue bags of Royal Oak, plus there are at least 10 small bags of some Mexican Mesquite, why do you need 4 more large bags of Royal Oak?". I told her she always buys stuff when it is on sale at half price, and I was promptly informed "That's different, I wear what I buy on sale". 

I tried to protest with "Would you rather have some new outfit you don't need, or eat a well cooked meal?". I have been informed I am sleeping with the dog tonight...
