@Little Steven
The question was about a medium going over 31 hours on a single load. Sounds out of the question to me but I could be wrong. Your thoughts?Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

15 New York Strip steaks for dinner...then threw on a Boston butt at 2am. I just brought my small, so I've been a lil more restless than normal. That lil dude has held without budging at all. Impressed!Skiddymarker said:@cazzy - being from the GWN, our chief constables/sheriffs are appointed, but if I could vote for one, you might just be it.
Folks with multiple handles.... say it ain't so.What you been cooking all night?MBGE has stayed lit for 15 or so hours, still lump left but at my age I can't stay awake longer than 15 hours and Mom told me never to go to bed with a candle or fire burning.Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ.... -
I always load it to the top of the fire ring or higher for long cooks.plumbfir01 said:I have never had an issue with lump but i ran out this am at 13hours in my large... Usually i can hold 20hours with lump left over.......I loaded it to the top of firebox and used spyder with round stone then AR for the butts. I opened it a total of 4 times throughout the cook and it never went about 235. I started a small part of lump and let guru get it to 230 and it held there for 30min before i added meat.. Not sure where i went wrong.. gasket maybe?

Sorry, thats what i meant... it was almost touching the spyder.... i had to jam the wood chunks in to make them fit...Beaufort, SC

Weird. Could be gasket but I went gasket free for years before installing Rutland. Never had any kind of problem except on shutting down. Lump?

Rockwood...nothing else has changed...both the dome therm and the guru had it at 230ish the whole cook...no flare ups or other stuff... Was just odd to me that it happend... never had issue before.Beaufort, SC

I've had terrible luck with Royal Oak in the last year or so during low and slows. I've had to re-fill twice (you read that correctly...two times) during a 20 hour cook. I'm sure it's partly me to blame, but still, at that low of a temp, there is no reason to go through that much lump.Thanks to @BOWHUNR, I am now hooked on Rockwood. I've yet to do a long, slow cook, but just in terms of ash production, this stuff is awesome. Even after burning at 400 for a couple hours, the firebox is still pretty full.

My large has been going at 225 for 14 hours plus 2-3 hours at 270ish. This 8 pound shoulder is probably going to be a 20 hour cook... I think I am good on charcoal. I loaded it to the top of the fire ring and just used my place setter instead of my woo3 to give me more space for charcoal, I have ran out only once before doing butts.

I have managed 23 hours on a large before, never had the need or opportunity to go further, but I had enough lump to keep it going if the need arose! I am curious about the medium as well, as it may be a nice compliment to my outdoor kitchen!Large BGE 2011, XL BGE 2015, Mini Max 2015, and member of the "North of the Border Smokin Squad" Canadian Outdoor Chef from London, Ontario, Canada

yes to this @AmericanFlannel . That is why I cut off the spider part and now use it separately for searing. Couldn't find a purpose with it attached.LBGE& SBGE———————————————•———————– Pennsylvania / poconos -
I've set up my XL with a mix o lump + small mesquite logs almost all the way up to the top of the fire ring, plate setter feet up, cooked a brisket for over 20 hours, removed the brisket and let the lump burn out just to see how long it would hold at the same temp range... in all it held for over 40 hours, then I want to bed and am not sure how much longer it took for the fuel to burn out.XL BGE + Large BGE @ Monterrey, Mexico

You can instant torch small pizzas by putting the stone in the bottom so that it's resting in the fire and drop a thin crust to watch it diegrege345 said:AmericanFlannel said:My large has been going at 225 for 14 hours plus 2-3 hours at 270ish. Was an experiment, not a dinner.
