Busted my dome

Was cooking a pizza and the baby was acting like an **** so I took him outside to check on the pie lifted the lid and with my hands full watched helplessly as it fell in slow mo. Guess the high temp made the ring expand and lose grip.

That sucks, a painful reminder to check the bolts a couple of times a year in a consistent climate and once every 2 months in one that actually goes through the four seasons.

Just replaced the gasket about a month ago and was afraid of snapping then so probably didn't tighten them enough. It's been fine though the last 10 cooks or so.

How tight are they suppose to be? I've been paranoid about something like this ever since I noticed it loosened up on a pizza cook I was doing.

Too bad, sorry to see a cracked dome. 

Band bolts for the LBGE/MBGE are to be torqued to 120 inch pounds.

How does one ensure that the bolts are tightened to 120 lbs?

Momma was trying to get the 2nd pizza made and the baby wanted up to see what she was doimg and started crying so I scooped him up and took him out for a peek.

My kids act like **** every night. Crying to be picked up, throwing food on the floor, the older one trying to drown the younger one in the bath, not going to bed. You know, kid stuff. Parenthood is depressing. Then they smile and it's all okay.

I'm sure he is speaking in hyperbole as I am(about the **** part).The best is when you and the wife have "big plans" for the evening, but then one of them acts up and it gets too late because you have to get up at 0400. Sigh.

 I hear they become pretty cool around the age of 4, and then everything is ruined once they become teenagers with their hormones and what not. No wonder we go grey.

@Dcgriller - torque wrench will get you to the correct spec.  Note it's 120 INCH pounds, not foot pounds.

My advice to you is to start drinking heavily. Then when you are good and hungover tomorrow contact your distributor, plead poverty and blame it on the kid. Find the closest orphanage and take a pic and send it to them claiming they are all yours.

I torqued my band bolts using a 5 gallon bucket filled to 24 lbs with water, hanging off a 6" wrench.  Method was described in my BGE assembly manual.  It worked and I have had no problems.

So, it's acceptable to go on a public forum and call your young child and **** and then post a picture of him?
