New Large Egg without feet...lesson learned!

After finally waiting for ever to jump on the Egg bandwagon, I bought a new large Egg. Before I picked it up, I made a new table out of cedar with a recessed paver and inset granite top. After scouring the internet for inspiration and some basic measurements I settled on a custom version based off measurements from the original green egg tables and from Nakedwhiz. In both cases, the distance from table top to egg shelf was 15" so I built the table accordingly. The one thing I didn't realize is that the eggs are no longer being shipped with the ceramic feet which turns out is a pre-requisite for being able to open the dome.
I tried to talk to the local dealer and the Egg headquarters and both said feet were no longer available. So, now I've got to come up with about 3/4" of a spacer to prevent dome interference with table top. A little frustrated to invest so much money and time into something and then not even be able to fully open the lid! Of course I can pay another $30 to buy a table nest that they have so conveniently added to their accessories list now.
So...hopefully this can prevent others from making the same mistake. If you're buying a new egg (or trying to not use the feet) the measurement needs to be about 14 1/4" from table top to paver top in order for large egg to fit properly.

Man go ahead and use the egg. The burning occurs after a lot of time. Get yourself some split firebricks and kitty corner them after a while

Beautiful table, can you double up the stone you recessed in the table under the egg.

Go to the nursery section of Home Depot or Lowes and get the clay feet for pots. They are the right height and only cost a couple of bucks each, a lot cheaper than the nest.Nice job on the tableLarge, small and mini now Egging in Rowlett Tx

You could just order some feet so you don't have to make a design change.

NICE TABLE !

Or put some ceramic ramekins (green ones, of course) under the egg.

Table looks good - will be similar to the one I am making - thanks for the advice on the distance.
I am waiting for my egg as well and was worried about the same thing.

You can also get yourself a table nest, which is what BGE Corp is selling, in lieu of including ceramic feet with the Egg. While they don't show it in the below picture, I'd still use the paver or stone, between the table and the table nest.BJ (Powhatan, VA)

You could also rout a slot out where the hinge meets the table top. I don't think you have to remove that much to get the dome fully open.
-
LS: he can't open the dome, because he built the table to the specs which assumed feet were being used.
i'd just put it up on a paver

Austin got it, the clay feet for pots at home depot and they have a spray paint that is a perfect matich for the egg. It has to look good to go with that table.
-
Why not just cut a notch in back to allow hinge to go back?Bx - > NJ ->TX!!!All to get cheaper brisket!

Fred's BBQ has them for twenty bucks..

+1 - That is what I was going to suggest.

Great looking table, the table nest is clean and the best looking of the options I see you have.
If you simply don't care what it looks like pile up pavers as others have suggested.

I think the table nest is the way to go....very clean looking. I may have to see if my dealer has one of those.

Based on how beautiful your table is you certainly don't want to mess up the look. The clay feet for pots can possibly be placed where you wouldn't notice them so much. However, if you want to jack it up a bit, check out cazzy's table and look at what his Eggs sit on. What if you go to a granite yard and have a piece of granite cut to thickness.
FYI I was just at the dealer today and they had feet. Many don't use the feet under the egg if they use a paved stone. Instead they use it to raise their pizza stone off the plate setter when doing pizzas.Mark Annville, PA -
Table nest I think is your best optionWould look the most complete

Or you could see if anyone near you has feet they're not using. Whee are you located? I don't use mine...Large Egg October 2011MiniMax December 2014

Thanks for all of the input guys. I've been trying to find someone with cheap granite remnants to do the job to cover the paver and give about another 1" spacer. Gator... I'm in Atlanta, GA.

I found some 3/4" square aluminum tubing at Lowes that I cut to the same length as my paver stone and put 4 of them under the egg.It has the additional benefit of acting as a heat-sink to prevent as much heat from transferring to the paver. Not sure if you can see it in the photo below or not, but it's there. Table is from Grill-Dome plans and made of FL Cypress.Dave

I know what u mean. 800 for a grill it should come with the stand. I wouldn't want to use the feet. My dealer gave me some that he had in the shop for free. I use them for my pizza stone since its not as sturdy with the feet on.

Not sue about the large, but my medium sits on a round 12" paver that is on a tile base. We all seem to go for the square pavers, I had an old round one kicking around. great place to hide it under the egg.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

I have a terrazzo top with the hinges cut out too, as i wanted the table top as high as possible. Check out my photos with the lid open and closed.
