Platesetter tool?
Is there a tool available to hook and lift a platesetter in/out of a BGE? Seems every time I do it is either hot, greasy or both.

I think it's Mickey that uses channel lock pliers when it's hot. If you are worried about getting dirty.......well, can't help you there.Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX

Boy that pswoo is expensive, like 60 bucks. Looks like a great item to have for the egg.

I agree, I have the PSWoo2 and in my opinion, it is a must have.____________________Entrepreneurs are simply those who understand that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity and are able to turn both to their advantage. •Niccolo Machiavelli -
Just beware that oven mitts, gloves, and/or pot holders will lose heat resistance if they get soaked through with grease.Trust me - I know this from a past life not associated with cooking in any way.

I need to get the PSWoo3. It's on my list!

I vote welding gloves for ALOT of the things to move items in the BGE.... there are many discussions I read about on the forum where someone comes up with some fancy tool to move a grate or poke around something... the welding glove will replace all those things and they are alot more reasonable to pay for, plus I use them to stoke my fireplace next to BGE and move logs around. Again a multipurpose tool ...
My Vote... Welding Gloves. and again be quick the platesetter is hot!
BGE Large... Go get 'em! "Cant means you haven't tried."

+1 with the gloves and good balance if bringing the drip pan along. Have the landing zone already scoped out so you aren't spending too much time with it in-hand.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

Will handle any placesetter out there.

I bought a pair of grate tongs that are made to pick up hot grates. They work on the plate setter and hot pans that have a grip edge on them. The jaws open up about 3/4" and they are angled for a perfect grab.Simple ingredients, amazing results!

I use grilling gloves and move fast.

Made one for a couple dollars

Agree with woo, welding gloves and landing spot. I learned about all of these thing on this forum and so happy with my set up

I'm a new guy - Egg'in since beginning of june. I've got the Ove Gloves. Very reasonably priced (they are sold as single gloves - get them on Amazon) and they work great. I use paper towel to tough anything that's greasy to keep the gloves from getting grease on them too much.Have handled the plate setter and iron grates with no problem at all - and Egg was over 500 degrees.
-
Thanks, I think I will try something like that. Could possibly even have a hook on it to hang while I am getting things ready. That way there is no need for a "landing place".Made one for a couple dollars

I use the basic heavy leather work gloves you can get at Home Depot etc for like $4 a pair. They are not heat resistant for long, but I have never burned myself. Most time when I try to move a hot platesetter the egg is at less than 400. I never attempt to move platesetter on hotter indirect cooks, like pizza.
A tip on the greasy part. Soaking the gloves in grease will make them less insulating. When you use your platesetter without a drip pan, wrap some aluminum foil around it to keep the grease off it.
Moral of the story is make sure you know what you are going to do with the hot stuff before you grab it. Unless you buy expensive, fancy sheilding gloves you will feel the heat eventually. I trust my hands more than a wire tool to hold on to the platesetter, I would be upset if it dropped and broke. -

Tools I made for my MBGE, ash tool and a tool to lift and hang the platesetter.
