A Bowl of Red
By Frank X. TolbertWritten by the late Dallas newspaper columnist and author, A Bowl of Red is an entertaining history of the peppery cowboy cuisine. This new printing of the book is based on Tolbert's 1972 revised edition, in which he describes the founding of the World Championship Chili Cookoff, now held annually in the ghost town of Terlingua, Texas.
.........................
Note that he states there is no beans in a bowl of Texas red. He is the man!
So. Well. texas red is only one type of chili then.

I do beans in my chili, local fast food chain doesn't but that's chili dog chili - I am OK with both.
-
I'll eat it with our without beans. I can't say I have a preference other than it needs some heat and the appropriate condiments available i.e sour cream, cheese, and jalapeños.XL BGE, KJ classic, Joe Jr, UDS x2

It's not something I use, but does adding corn automatically disqualify it from being chili? For the record, I am pro beans, but not if it outnumbers the meat.Stillwater, MN

I can't stay out of it.
@Legume You are correct. Silly argument.
@SGH Harsh words there my friend (It does have the described effect)
Here's my take: When my wife makes chili it has beans and tomatoes and she uses chili powder. When I make chili there are no beans and no tomatoes and I start with dried chili pods. They are both good. Carry on.Coleman, Texas
Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

Beans yes, hamburger no. I use shredded left over brisket or pork or what ever I have, but not hamburger. It's a texture thing.Hood Stars, Wrist Crowns and Obsession Dobs!
