what are everyone's thoughts on the KAB? Do they work well? If you have one are you happy with it? I was thinking about getting one.

In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -
The KJ Jr size is pretty new; fits great!John in the Willamette Valley of Oregon

I ordered a basket for my XL. Asked by email for a SS option. Got this response:
We don't currently have a stainless version of the XL. Thanks for you order.
Have a Kick Ash Day!

Got so enthusiastic reading all this, that I ordered one as well.. Been doubting for a while now, but this will save me some time and effort cleaning the egg out.
-
I have a SS on a large and don't use factory grate.
-
The SS is not a big deal as the KAB is like 1/4" thick stock and will last a very long time and for the money is an awesome deal......... I have the HQ grate too and it is hanging on the workshop wall now as the KAB is much more better for me just shake in a bucket to get the ash out then back in the egg and new lump on top if needed, light and cook......

Yes it was for a large and I think was like $55 but was like 3-4 years ago. The HQ is a good product but all you get is better air flow. The KAB is a basket that you can take out o the egg and shake the ash out of, I shake mine in a 5 gallon bucket. Put it back into the egg add new lump if I need to. You can't doo that with the HQ. I feel that both products would last a lifetime but the KAB give more for the money. If you want more air flow and that is all you are looking for then the HQ will for sure do the job but that is all you will get. Another great advantage of the KAB is if you are taking your egg someplace and need to shut it down and let it cool off to transport quickly you can use gloves and take the basket out dump the hot coals into a bucket of water and the egg will cool off much faster, this is great for a Mini Max or small at a tailgate party.

The greatest barrier against all wisdom, the stronghold against knowledge itself, is the single thought, in ones mind, that they already have it all figured out. -
SS for large was around $80 last summer before they made them of thicker material.Think it was a special run.
