I have the big green egg glove but its not all that in my opinion.

Black leather gloves from the bbq section of Academy. $10 and have lasted me around 4 years. They are not total protection but I can remove a hot plate setter from my xl after a pizza cook. I get about 6 sec before my hands get hot at those temps. At brisket temps, no issues.Be careful, man! I've got a beverage here.

Nomex gloves, like the "Ove Glove". They've worked well for me for years. However, I'm very intrigued by the silicone gloves out there. They'd likely be superior for food handling. http://www.amazon.com/Waterproof-Five-Fingered-Protection-Versatility-Hassle-Free/dp/B00HLPXL80/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408586008&sr=8-1&keywords=bbq+gloves

@travisstrick - that's about how my welding gloves work but for some reason when grabbing the wok handles it has been burning my fingers rather quickly lately. Maybe I am getting soft.-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky.

I think it depends on the material you're grabbing. I use Harbor Freight welding gloves, and if I grab the cast iron grill extender I have SIGNIFICANTLY less time than if I grab stainless or the plate setter.Mattman3969 said:@travisstrick - that's about how my welding gloves work but for some reason when grabbing the wok handles it has been burning my fingers rather quickly lately. I don't use gloves, but my Aunt who has a ceramic hobby (obsession) uses glass blowers gloves to move kiln hot plate setters. She ordered from these folksDelta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

When I want to go into harms way I have these 2,400 degree steel workers gloves. Trouble is they are HUGH!

I have had other insulated food gloves but they would melt if you touched anything too hot. I will report back when I try them.Which came first the chicken or the egg? Looking forward to your review. If ordering gloves happens like everything else I need to do it will be a while before I get around to it-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky.

The two examples of silicone gloves are only rated to 425ºF. I wouldn't use them on a hot plate setter. Look good for handling other items that don't get so hot.Southeast Florida - LBGE

I wear firefighter gloves they work great and are very flexible. Most fire depts throw away the old ones when they get new ones issued or use them for drill days and will probably give you an old pair...The Gator Nation, Central FloridaLARGE & MINI Life is good...GO GATORS!!!

@Mattman3969 - not to hijack your thread - but this thread regarding the CI setter from @Ilrickmanhad me thinking about moving a hot setter safely out of the egg. I have a shop grade Alnico magnet with 100# pull, good for temps to 1000ºF (maybe magnets quit magnetting when temps go up?).Would it be possible to move a CI setter with a magnet?Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!
-
IDK on the magnet, that sounds like a Nola question to me My gloves are fine for the PlateSetter but when grabbing the handles on the wok or veggie basket they are starting to heat up faster than when they were new. I really noticed after they got rained on( were dry when I used). I don't know if the water had anything to do with it or not. My dad use to work in at Alcoa Aluminum and they couldn't wash any of the heat/fire retardant clothing that they used. It was no longer retardant after washing.-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky.

I got some very good gloves from La Caja China's website. Similar to welding but better lined internally internally

I have these below and I would love to use them, but my hands are to big for them. I bought them to handle meat while cutting it. They said they are making a larger set, but they aren't out yet. They refunded my money and told me to keep them. I also have a pair of welders gloves to handle the plate setter and grates.XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo.

I use some very old welders gloves. About once every 2-3 years. I honestly don't remember the last time I needed them.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

RRP. I have the mitts. Smartest move I made . Welding glove like the ones I bought from a dealer in another state just don't work. Burn your paws enough and you'll wise up in a hurry.

Welding gloves for me. Same pair for years. They are a bit cruddy, but oh well. I recently got the claw for my large plate setter and now I rarely even use the gloves, no need. They only have them for the large, I think.
