Was watching Primal Grill on TV yesterday. While he was using a tandoor to cook the naan I was wondering if anybody has tried using an egg to cook naan? You know get it nice and hot and slap the naan on the inside of the dome lid for a few seconds to cook it.

I've thought of doing exactly that, but am yet to try it. I would probably do a clean burn first to get the inside of the dome clean.
I'm a bit of a purist in this regard. To make naan, the naan must be between the fire and the surface it rests on. I built a tandoor, and though the egg comes close, it doesn't beat the tandoor for tandoori cooking.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
I've done it. It doesn't get dirty, but it does fall off into the fire if you're not careful.Minimax and a wood-fired oven.

Grid will catch them, but at those temps it didn't hold them for long...Minimax and a wood-fired oven.

They should stick better if you sprinkle a little water on the naan before sticking it on. Also, using a gaddi or naan pillow helps. Works in the tandoor.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

There is a tandoor restaurant near my office and I asked the guy to see his arm. Straight scar tissue

All the way up and flipped. The lower platesetter acted as a radiant barrier but allowed the heat to curl over it. Tied a bunch of sifferent ways but found this best. I'm not as tough as Cali and couldn't fit my forearm and pillow through the dome opening.

I wasn't being a smarta$$ - I'd like to try LS's naan recipe too. He knows his Indian grub.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

You need high heat because naan should be slightly charred outside and extremely soft inside. It's not crisp at all. PS by itself will give you a burnt bottom and a raw dough top.Minimax and a wood-fired oven.
-
@LS: when you say curd, do you mean yogurt? I use full fat yogurt in mine but no ghee.Minimax and a wood-fired oven.
