I'v done it with and with out didn't notice any difference I personally prefer to rub with EVOO 1st then apply the dry rub1 · -

My 2nd and my 1st for that matter are Large I love the idea of 2 larges all the Eggsories are interchangeable and their is a lot of room if needed1 · -
