Clean Burn Advice

I have only had my xl for 3 months, and I have probably been thru 10 or 15 20lb bags of lump so I dont think I am overdue, but how often should it be done...

Getting ready for a marathon egg week...SHMBO always bakes up a storm and gives plates of baked goods away for the holidays to all the neighbors and family events...this year they will get a meat tray as well...

Knowing I'm going to have 4-5 major cooks coming up, is it best to do a clean burn first?  Once you do it, do you notice anything different in your following cooks?

Thanks

If any of the baking is going to be done on the Egg, do the burn, then the baking, then the meat.  The burn will remove all the old smoke and meat grease which could affect the taste of the baking.  If you are just doing the meat on the Egg, wait til afterward.  About the only time I do a clean burn if after a number of pork butts, briskets or chicken, when you start getting a lot of grease and creosote on the dome.

  • Mike_the_BBQ_Fanatic  A clean burn really is not necessary at all to be honest if your egg has a lot of burnt on nasty crust then do it remember to remove the thermometer from the dome and be ready to replace the gasket just in case you fry it considering all the cooking your planing I would wait until after all the stuff is cooked so that if you trash you gasket at least you have time to replace it as far as noticing any difference  I haven't seen any  at all it to me is just for cosmetic appeal so it's up to you weather your egg needs it or not I hope this advice helps you oh one more thing you might see some brownish  sweat coming from the dome it is normal what it is is moisture that is trapped inside the egg and it comes out under hi temp

Do pizzas at least one friday a month, and no special clean burns will be necessary.
    Cheers!
