Forum friends,
As most of you know, my new wonderful wife and I recently started a food blog, because (lucky me) she likes to cook just as much as I do.
Well, on a whim, we submitted our pulled pork BBQ sauce recipe (which we call "Dead Guy Sauce" - long story) to the Food52 food blog "best condiment contest" (Food52 is a blog run by folks who have written cookbooks for the NY Times), and we were absolutely shocked yesterday to discover that our ketchup-based sauce was a finalist in front of countless fancy looking condiments that use ingredients we can't even pronounce.
What's even better, they refer back to our original blog post which features the sauce used on pulled pork which we cooked on the Egg - so hopefully the Egg will get a little publicity too.
So, do us a favor - go to the site at this link:
http://www.food52.com/recipes/6400_dead_guy_sauce
and if you like our sauce, give us a vote!
(they do require you to register in order to vote, but it's quick, painless, and we promise they won't spam you)
THANKS!!!
TRex and the Mrs.

TRex, I just whipped up a batch. I usually don't care for vinegar type sauces but that has a very good balance of flavors. I just happened to have a fresh smoked butt and tried it on some pulled. Wow, honestly, I like it. Thanks for the info. BTW I voted for ya'll.

You sauce does sound really good. You have my vote!

Eggers Prayer-
Our egg, which art in sizes, hallowed be thy smoke, thy will be grilled, at home as it is at eggfest. Give us this clay our daily brisket and forgive us our rubs, as we forgive those who gas grill against us, and lead us not to flashback but deliver us from overnighters. For thine is the grill, the smoke, the egg. Let's eat!

Also in Louisiana is the practice of raising the dead so they can vote.

Congrats Jason. That's exciting stuff, and cool that you two share the passion!
What brand of ketchup do you like best in your sauce?
Thanks man, and good luck!

Ok, I signed up and voted for you. Up against home made sriracha sauce is a tough one! Looks like two great sauces. I'm going to try both, thanks for sharing Trex!Knoxville, TN

you got my vote.

You don't use this sauce on the dead guy in Colorado do you? Yuk! They have an annual dead guy festival there.
-
Hey Chris, I'll use whatever I can get my hands on in a pinch, but when I have my preference, I use Hunts. They seem to know what they're doing with tomatoes (incidentally, a couple issues back Cook's Illustrated rated their chopped tomatoes as the "best canned tomatoes," and I have to say I'd agree).
Thanks for the encouragement, buddy.

Please tell me the prize is a trip to the Coop!
-
Hey, I do encourage you to make it and tell me what you think - always looking for feedback!
Thanks!

I've been sworn to secrecy on the origin of the name - like the Spawn's award winning brownies, it must remain a mystery. :-)

Hey! Glad you liked it! Yeah, if you simmer it long enough, the vinegar plays a little more nicely with the other flavors. Thanks for the feedback!

HAHA - I love it!!

I do miss Louisiana . . .
-
I know - it's embarrassing, right?
Do let me know how you like the sauce if you make a batch - and thanks!
jason -
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying the shoebox.

Thanks Jeff!

I know - we'd never even heard of sriracha sauce. A bit fancier than we're used to. Here's hoping that the voting pool is flooded with enough "lower-brow" cooks like my wife and me!!

Thanks Dave!

Thanks Chris!

Interesting - we'll have to check out this dead guy festival . . .
