they probably taught you that during one of your jail stints down at the "U"!!
-
like a typewriter or should we update it & say like a PC
-
to anybody who can show me an ear of corn grown with an odd number of rows. They're always even.
A little farm trivia.__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious -
Typewriter of course...
Are we gonna have a OT question about how to load toilet paper or paper towels? -
gary, now you are going to have everyone (including me) counting rows on every ear of corn they eat!!! LOL .. .
-
like a typewriter...left to right and usually 3 rows at a time.....
-
Gotta go with the typewriter method
:cheer: -
left to right typewriter style - and NEVER right to left!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.
-
Typewriter here.

I peel from the bottom. Squeeze the nub until it splits, then the peel comes off in two pieces and the stem hold it together. A lot fewer of the stringy runners stay attached to the fruit that way as a bonus.
-
There is one strand of silk for each kernel on the cob.
-
I normally just eat it with my teeth, and have never given much thought as to which method. As a matter of fact, we had corn last night, and I'm not sure I really know how I ate it. I'm thinking I'm a concentric circles kind of guy. I'll pay more attention next time.
LR -
and who the hell tested that hypothesis????
-
well, maybe if you didn't drink so much before you started eating!!! LOL ...
-
Circles here.
Banana Peeling, Cut the tip off with a knife, then peel into three strips.
And toilet paper, loose end over the top. -
Not only that, the silk has to be pollinated (by wind) for the kernel to mature. Which begets a little farm humor.
Corn is pollinated by wind blowing the pollen from one stalk to another. An end row of corn doesn't get as good a pollination as a stalk in the middle of the patch. So, the old joke is .... never plant an end row. Get it? Yuk. Yuk.
At least Fidel will get it. :laugh:__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious -
Simple biology Max.
The silk is the male part of the plant. The tassels contain pollen. The pollen is released from the tassel and pollinates the silks (of neighboring corn plants) Each strand of silk is connected to a single "ovary" on the cob which, when fertilized creates a seed, or in this case a kernel of corn.
"Green acres is the place for me.
Farm livin' is the life for me.
Land spreadin' out so far and wide
Keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside." -
When you're farming thousands of acres your biggest hope is that you can find an end row before dark!
-
yepfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
-
Hey, are you talkin' dirty? There's children around here! :laugh:The Naked Whiz

Mike -
I have a dozen ears of corn in my kitchen today and I have nothing to do, so I will check....yes, I'm that bored today!
-
makes perfect sense to a city boy like me!!! i just know i like to eat it
-
Across, but I do make a circle once in a while.
-
I have always cut it off the cob!
-
we always cut the corn off the cob.
-
Max I think I eat corn on the cob across like a type writer and Cindy said she eats it like a type writer as well.
I guess it may be more efficent if we ate it around and around. Tim
Anyway now we are hungry for sweetcorn. :P -
