Discontinued rub - need to find replacement

After more than a year of die-hard egging I have acquired several large shelves full of rubs, spices, and sauces of all different brands. One of these was a simple product that is one of my favorites for all-around grilling. It was labeled as "Weber Sweet'N Tangy BBQ Seasoning" and I typically found it at Walmart for about $3.50 for a 4-5 oz. plastic spice bottle. Well I recently ran out and have been searching for it for a few months but no luck. I tried every Walmart within 50 miles and even some out of state stores while I was traveling. Nobody had it and there is no longer a spot on the shelves for it. They carry other Weber spices but not this one. I tried some of the other similar spices and they weren't nearly as good or as versatile.
Then just a week ago I was in a local Dollar Tree outlet and was shocked to see large 14 oz. containers of this rub on sale for only $1.00 each! I grabbed a few and was happy for now but I suspect this means that the product has been discontinued. Here is what it looks like:
So my question is: have any of you tried this rub and liked it? If so then have you found any other brand of rub which is similar or better without being drastically different? I am going to run out of this stuff sooner or later and then I will need to find a suitable replacement. I am tempted to try the DP and BGE brands but I can't bring myself to spend so much for them. Local dealer prices are high bordering on exhorbitant, and online prices are a little better but then the shipping kills you which seems odd since spices weigh so little.
One reason I have so many shelves full of spices and rubs is that I don't really like most of them and some are only good for very limited use. Too many of these contain a lot of garlic, peppercorn, or other very strong spices as the primary ingredient which I don't care for. I like a more mild taste with mixed flavors, and hot or spicey are ok too, just not so much of any one spice that it overpowers all the others. Any advice from the rub gurus out there?

Hmmmm.... Wondering if it would work to buy up what you can and store it in the freezer...

In addition to what Rascal said, put the containers in food-saver bags first then freeze. Have you contacted Weber directly to see what the deal is?

Good idea! Here's a good place to start: http://www.spiceadvice.com/weber/product-info.php

Sounds good, I don't think I've ever seen it. I'll have to look now. Have you tried amazon? I can about find anything there.

In full disclosure, I'm addicted to JH and DP rubs, but I put Gordon's Grub Rub on everything for my children because it is mild, but flavorful. Here's a link. Here in Alabama, you can only get it at Acadamy Sports. It's Grubrub.com....and here's a link to take you directly to a picture. Good luck:

Give Dizzp Pig " Ragin River " try, I think you'll like it. Maybe Chris would even give you a sample pack to try. See-Yaa

Sams still carries it in yhis area

I dont think it's been discontinued...try Sam's that is where I first found it...has quite a bit of sugar as I recall and I had a problem with it hardening in the container but has good flavor and have used it on several occassions...Sam's is where I got mine..

I had a similiar eggperience with "Weber Smokey Mesquite" in 13.75 oz containers. Got several in Big Lots for $1. each. Suggest you go back and get the rest.
On the subject of rubs you try and do not like for whatever reason, I have had similiar eggperience 'cause most are too salty for my tastes, and every year or so I take all the rubs and mix in a large pretzel container and maybe add something for flavor. This makes a great flavored salt mix and is now less salty and use it on many things, including popcorn . Hope this helps. -
Freds Music and BBQ also has it.

For a buck a piece you should have bought them all.

Good tips from everyone. I did manage to snag a decent number of the big containers from the dollar store but I didn't want to get too many because I was worried that they would go bad. They have expiration dates which go out another 10 months or so. Not sure if that really matters since they are sealed in airtight containers but I might freeze them when we have some room open up in our freezer.
Later I decided that it would be good to buy some more and give them away to friends but when I went back the local dollar stores didn't have it. I did check Big Lots and a number of other stores but nobody around here seems to carry it now. Well I will make this stash last as long as possible and in the meantime I will try some of the other suggestions to see what my next favorite will be.
