Drum Smoker

Any advantages over a BGE? If so, any particular brand you’d recommend?

I have an Oklahoma Joe Bronco Drum smoker-replaced a Pit Barrel cooker with it.  Since it is a drum the way it cooks is different and the end flavour (nod) profile is different.  I hot smoke a fair amount of salmon and blind taste tests with neighbours (nod) the drum wins-same with smoked cream cheese.  It's great with chix wings as well.

The drum can cook up to nine racks of ribs (I have an LBGE).  The cooking grid is about the same diameter as the LBGE, FWIW.  The best it can do on one load of charcoal is around 9-10 hours at 250-260*F (ambient outside temp around 50*F) so there are no big low and slow protein cooks.

Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

I have a Pit Barrel Smoker and i love it.  It's a chicken cooking machine.  Very easy to run.

I was looking at the Hunsaker. Pretty much crossed pellet grills off my wish list. So, just looking for a good excuse to buy another smoker.😁

    - Late as usual in responding to the OP.
    - I have had (operative word) a Gateway Drum which eventually found its way to my BIL's home down in Florida.
    - The Gateway was eventually replaced by a Hunsaker Drum. It to found its way to another BIL's home in Fl.
    - Nothing the matter with either Drum Smoker military moves got in the way. I liked the Hunsaker better. Fire control was easier and the Hunsaker folks were fantastic to deal with.
    - I think it was 4 years ago at Christmas time my kids cobbled together there pennies and bought into the pre-buy of the Hastybake Roughneck (Hastybakes square drum). Did not know what to think/make of it when I got it. Definetly a different approach. After a couple of uses I could see the method to the madness. Really like the coal door and fire basket. Easy temp control. Mine is the Corten Steel version and that adds a wee bit of personality. I think you can get it in a black powder coat or full SS.
    - Flavor profile is/was the same on all 3 cookers and definitely different than the Egg.
    - I to like briskets on the barrel smoker along with beef clods. Hanging chickens isn't to shabby either.
