Thanks @poster I will look into that. Swmbo works from home and $120 is nothing compared to wearing out a car, the fuel associated etc.South of Columbus, Ohio.

I’ll never forget hearing that modem dial up the internet when I was a kid, fingers crossed that it would connect.South of Columbus, Ohio.

@kl8ton these contracts must be worth hundreds of millions, I feel like it’s a waste of time and taxpayer money. They are literally trying to run fiber cables through the Alaska wilderness. Satellite internet seems like a more practical approach to rural internet connectivity. Here in Ohio they are boring every foot of the conduit, hundreds of miles, burying boxes at every connection, then tearing the boxes out to connect the runs…. Nobody uses a landline anymore why the heck are they burying land lines for internet service. Maybe I’m missing the mark on this one but to me it seems like more government waste.South of Columbus, Ohio.

Cell towers will/should be a thing of the past soon too. Everything by satellite just makes more sense. There's a tower on every corner it seems and every time they upgrade they need to be closer and closer to each other to get the speedsalaskanassasin said:@kl8ton these contracts must be worth hundreds of millions, I feel like it’s a waste of time and taxpayer money. Perhaps I am alone on this one, but I’m not a fan of putting a lot more of our junk into the night sky."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

Another Gestura spoon. My wife has found ours quite helpful in the kitchen and suggested getting another. After having seen fellow Egger @Canugghead’s endorsement, I could not deny her this.

Think I'd read somewhere that satellite comm only works up to a certain latitude, because the closer to the Poles you get the further thru the atmosphere the signal has to go (those types of satellites have to be in geosynchronous orbit, above the Equator, so that the dishes aimed at them only need to be aimed once.
That may be old info OBE, however; elon's satellites are spread out in long chains and may/probably work totally differently (and where I agree with JIC, we're putting too much sh*t into our skies).

Crown castle and American Tower are reflecting this..,what used to be a cash cow where these companies would buy and build out cell infrastructure to lease back to the carriers is going down hill quickly
bought CCI @80 and sold @ 130, now it’s back to 86.. and the only thing that is helping them is their dividend payments..
Satellite will be what all mobile phone providers will be using within 10-15 years..Have:

Speed at my home router. ATT fiber. $90/month. 1GB
Where I work we have 1GB Comcast fiber throttled down to 50Mbps for $400/ month. It's in an industrial area and no other providers are available for "wired"Internet. Looking at star link. Comcast quoted full 1GB at $1300 a month.
At the campground we have 2GB fiber for $235 per month "business class.". There are 4 fiber providers there plus coax.

They say we have the fastest numbers, in fact the fastest numbers anywhere in the world. A year ago they laughed at us, but not anymore.JohnInCarolina said: -
None of our internet service providers in Australia have significant upload speeds. These download speeds are far more than I currently need but were a free upgrade from 250mbps to 750mbps.

Yard maintenance demands are pretty hefty at our place, as some neighbours have huge, old, beautiful (but messy) trees that scatter leaves all throughout our garden beds. We routinely do 40-50 bags of leaves each fall and a ton of branches throughout the year. Have been using a cheap Ryobi leaf blower that was underpowered for my needs, so decided it was finally time to upgrade. Very impressed. Should have bought it sooner.

Next purchase for cooking? Genius temp controller.......
I'd love to buy a macro lens for my camera. I'll have a Nikkor 85mm f1.8G for sale soon.....
I'm fixed for spirits. Have some Suntory Hibiki (Japanese Harmony) and a few others. A few also
from the Glenmorangie roster........The Nectar D'Or is a fine finish to any meal...... -
Wife just got the new MacBook Neo for me for my birthday. Trying to figure out how to use the Apple OS system. I've had iPhones and iPads for years, but this is my first laptop with them.Las Vegas, NV

Not sure how it is in GWN, but I pay the neighborhood crew under the table to clean up my yard twice a year. Much cheaper. Maybe slightly unethical.GrateEggspectations said:Yard maintenance demands are pretty hefty at our place, as some neighbours have huge, old, beautiful (but messy) trees that scatter leaves all throughout our garden beds. @Battleborn the MacMostVideo channel on Youtube has some pretty good tips. @Botch recommended it to me when I got my first Mac.Battleborn said:Wife just got the new MacBook Neo for me for my birthday. @Battleborn
I’d be interested to hear back on what you think of the system in a week or two.For the yard work, I actually enjoy doing it. Where I can do work around the house myself (repairs included), I like to. No one cares about my home as much as I do, so my results will be better for simple tasks, every time. The savings and exercise are perks. But if someone waved a cheap alternative in my face, I just might be all over it. 😂 -
Was raised on a Macintosh, so it’s the learning Microsoft products that has been the challenge for me.lousubcap said:"Once you go Mac you will never go back!" -
