OT - What are you doing now? (2026)

2025 was a wild whirlwind with so many highs and lows.  I’m currently having a party with an amazing group of friends I met in 2025.  We are looking forward to 2026!!  Hope everyone has an amazing year and look forward to seeing what everyone is up too!

Better to be lucky than good in 2026 and beyond! If you have a choice, take lucky every time!
Great setting right there.  You are living the "better to be lucky than good" lifestyle.
I am celebrating the closure of quite a year. A few challenges out there but nothing compared to the audibles that came thru in 2025.
    Happy New Year to all!🎇🍾🥂

OK I missed a few over Christmas, but I was in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Did you do better or worse on your own?   There’s been matches most days and Arsenal now sit four pints clear at the top, inlacing a big win against the in-form Aston Villa. Liverpool have snuck back in to the top 4.  Elsewhere, Wolves got a point and Chelsea have sacked their manager.

    Saturday

Villa vs Forest - turns out Villa can lose after all but a visit from the hapless Forest will abate any performance anxiety.  3-0

Wolves vs West Ham - a point, a point I tell you.  That’s a 50% boost to the running total for the astonishingly poor Wolves after holding Man Utd.  The Hammers are very far from certain in their endeavours and perhaps the unimaginable could happen,   a win for the Old Gold. 1-0

Brighton vs Burnley - The Filthies are 14th which seems a bit low, but then again 9 points covers 16th to 5th place int he table.  There point heading their way here though as the Clarets just aren’t all that this season. 2-1.

Bournemouth vs Arsenal - The Cherries have collapsed in resolute style and languish in 15th - despite being hailed as a modern marvel after 8 games. The Gunners look like they have the PL in the bag this year already. 0-2

    Sunday

Leeds vs Man Utd - looking uncomfortable in 5th Utd still have issues and won’t relish their trip over the Pennines to old foes Dirty Leeds.  The hosts are in great form and will not fear this contest. 2-1

Everton vs Brentford - hidden in plain view this is 8th v 9th and 1-1 feels about all the money.

Fulham vs Liverpool - both run reliable form if not spectacular, the Reds have recovered to a more lofty position and the Cottagers stabilised in mid-table. A fatigue spawned draw on the cards here too, 1-1.

Newcastle vs Palace - The Toon remain 13th and there mist be a reason for half a season’s worth of not quite hitting the mark. Very capable on their day bit seem to lack the underlying confidence to press on.   The mighty Eagle are running on fumes and a draw would be epic. 2-0

Spurs vs Sunderland - the Maccems are passing all tests with flying colours and the ghost of Spurs past still lurks, instilling a proper dose of Spursyness at all opportunities. Going to be tight and with away-win the slight favourite 1-2

Man City vs Chelsea - only three places apart but a gulf-like 11 points shows the difference between talent and consistency. Newly manager-less Chelsea probably would not expect much from this game anyway, so pulling the trigger now makes sense.  Could be a fun watch, 3-1.

There’s your first for 26 and only 18 more to go - but then you’ve got the World Cup, so strap in lads.

Other girls may try to take me away
But you know, it's by your side I will stay

    Nice memory.

Not today. A tropical -1. Was really beautiful weather to be out and the ice was great. Everyone was smiling and laughing. Rain and above freezing temps the next few days, so hopefully that won’t be the end of it for the season.

For those who don’t know, the skateway is almost 8km (5 miles) long.

did you do the length from NAC to Dow's lake? Winterlude should be coming up soon perhaps they still have ice sculptures on the frozen lake. I seem to remember that every spring one of the Britco change rooms would crash through the ice and sink signalling the end of the season.

In the coldest years the NCC would cut keys (holes) in the ice to prevent expansion cracks. Seems like a good idea but evening skates meant dodging around the unexpected open water ...

Sounds like you have quite vivid memories of it. Hopefully, the sinking of those change rooms didn’t occur with any skating enthusiasts in them!

No, we had the kids in tow, so only did from about Lansdowne to Pretoria bridge (😊). That was enough for us to declare that they had earned their BeaverTails. Should have taken a photo to show others what those are all about.

The entirety of the skateway is apparently open at present, though Patterson Creek was closed; not sure why. I love that spot. Just so beautiful. A colleague of mine is currently staying with her elderly parents in their house, which backs right onto it.

Two years ago, the season was such that the canal never opened. Disappointing, but there is of course something to be said for a mild winter (which you can surely appreciate, given your current place of residence!).

turned the heat off today, supposed to hit 41 degrees f.  propane prices are out of control, december came in just shy of 1500 bucks for a tiny thousand sq ft camp. way too cold too early this year

all the walls and ceilings i insulated when i bought the house, insulation, plastic over the insulation to stop the wind, added a layer of 1/4 inch plywood on all walls, then 1/2 inch sheet rock.
my basement has a 9 foot tall wall of field stone and sits on the windy side of the lake. the inside wall actually ices up if i dont get snow to insulate it. dirt floor to boot with the lake level about 10 inches down. its like radiant cold flooring on the main level. have not turned the basement heaters on yet but anything over 42 degrees down there creates moisture which is another problem with a house built 5 feet from the edge of a lake. this is the house near boston, the camp in maine is cheap to heat if i keep the slab warm, no basement there, hard to wrap my head around no basement but it is what it is
