Sweat pant pants from Atlantic rancher...this years Xmas present. My old wool ones are twenty something years oldfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

This has been sitting in my "cart" for months, have been trying not to buy any more cookbooks, but it was $20 off so got it. Rather than be arranged by course (appetizers, veg, etc) or protein (beef, chicken, etc) it's arranged by cooking method (braising, steaming, stirfry, grill, etc). Lots of color photos and the recipes have lots of ingredients but they look delicious.“All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure.”

hopefully NOT a new tankless hot water heater. current one (8 year old Nat gas Bosch) is dripping from the internals "somewhere". Plumber coming over tomorrow morning. Because a once leaky anything that is hooked up to a water supply has lots of damage potential, I am inclined to just replace it.
Have had more than one person downcast the Bosch line of heaters, so I am not that torn up if that happens.~~

Finally stacked the bar in the basement, was a really fun trip.

lol! I that exact one in my truck. It is really useful and n a lot of weird ways.WeberWho said:I was gifted this from my Dad who is hard to shop for and thought I'd share it here. My Dad has all kinds of tools and gadgets and he thought I might need one as well. My Dad doesn't get very impressed with most things. So when this showed up on my doorstep I knew he must have been impressed. I have to admit this thing is pretty d*mn impressive! I'm not affiliated in any with the product but definitely worth taking a look at if anyone needs an idea for Christmas or a gift that someone is hard to shop for. This thing is super handy. It sure beats firing up the air compressor for some simple task. Especially when you have to drag a hose around. It's not necessarily cheap but the cost can be easily justified. I just wanted to throw it out here for a gift suggestion.

Speaking of being really useful, I've always laughed off all these small little hand held air compressors. My sister gifted my Dad and I one last year for Christmas. While it's not a replacement for an air compressor, I found myself using this thing all the time for tires on vehicles, bikes, mower, trailer, snowblowers, etc. A perfect thing to throw in a bag for a long trip with a battery impact wrench and some sockets. I never realized how handy it can be. While it's not exactly fast, you can just attach it to the stem and preset the PSI and walk away for a minute or two as it shuts off once it reaches the number you preset.

@zaphodGood luck, hope it's fixed or easily fixable.
Touch wood, my Japanese made Paloma NG tankless water heater is still running after 17 years, in spite of bleeding edge error-ridden configuration, e.g. under capacity pipe, missing descaling circuit, etc. I started descaling it with a DIY descaling circuit when it was about 10yo IIRC.
I am paranoid about water damage. To mitigate the risk I have over a dozen wifi enabled Govee water leak detectors scattered throughout the house, any leak would trigger a loud local alert, send me a text message, activate a 3rd party wifi gadget to shut off the water main.canuckland -

@WeberWho I'm now a believer too. Got the Ridgid inflator that works off my collection of Ridgid batteries, can also plug into cigarette lighter, love it.

Warranty coverage, heat exchanger and they'll do the whole unit. I pay for the labour of today's discovery and the labour of re and re. So a great outcome. we just turn on the water supply to the unit when we are actually using it and keep an hear out for alarms if it decides to let go.Canugghead said:@zaphodGood luck, hope it's fixed or easily fixable.

With temps in the 20’s and high teens in middle Ga, I decided to automate the temp in the well house with an INKBIRD thermostat smart plug . We have small 500 watt electric heater which kicks on now when the temp dives below 40 degrees. It does fluctuate ~5 degrees every 15 to 20 minutes of power cycles, but it’s nice to know, no frozen well pump. Have:
XLBGE / Stumps Baby XL / Couple of Stokers (Gen 1 and Gen 3) / Blackstone 36 / Maxey 3x5 water pan hog cooker
Had:
LBGE / Lang 60D / Cookshack SM150 / Stumps Stretch / Stumps Baby

@zaphod how did it go? also curious what caused the heat exchanger failure.
canuckland -
it was a complete gasket failure for the heat exchanger (of course mounted BEHIND the heat exchanger). We got a full replacement yesterday and have been enjoying hot showers, baths, and the dishwasher again. Thanks for asking.~~

Good to hear. Same or different model, what have they done differently? Sorry for so many questions, unlike the first time I want to be better informed when things go wrong here eventually.
I have a bucket immersion water heater for emergency but have not needed it yet, touch wood. I can also boil water fast on the induction range, or in the Egg

exact same model for the warranty replacement. I expect it to fail in 8 years again, but by then I'll have gotten 16 out of it so I'll be happy.
Yeah, the tea kettle got a lot of work this week...~~

A new Kindle, this time the signature version. I chose black.I'll mostly use it when I've got to wait, such as in a doctor's office.Somewhere on the Colorado Front Range -
Out of curiosity, is your water source soft or hard, how often do you descale the unit? My water supply is not too hard, I got away with not descaling the unit for at least the first ten years. interesting article, thanks. I don't know if we have "soft" or "hard" water. I have been told soft, but when I looked it up today got conflicting answers. I have regular servicing done on the unit which I would expect to include descaling.~~

A full descale cyle alone should take an hour if not longer, how long were the service visits? None of my appliances gets routine service calls, I'm too cheap
canuckland -
hours, my service guys are pretty thorough, and I usually have them in to do the fireplace, furnace (heat pump/natural gas combo) and water heater. They did notice on the last service that the water heater was not driving the heater as much as it should, only a little bit on the energy dial. Now with the temperature at the same level, the energy dial gets to the halfway mark and the water is *much* hotter. very pleasant showers

Nice. Since it's brand new and now that we know better, how about writing down the water temp now for future reference?
I just measured mine set at highest 120F, Thermapen registered between 118-121F!canuckland -
yeah, I think that's smart. see what the unit actually generates as opposed to the promise of the setting.~~

A Christmas present I received.

I stopped at Harbor Freight a few days ago with my Dad as I needed a serpentine tool kit for my wife's vehicle. While there we came across these little tool boxes. My Dad thought they were too stupid not to buy. So he purchased a couple for my brother-in-law and myself for Christmas as a joke. Later that evening my Dad mentioned that he should have bought a few more for my sister's. So I ran over to Harbor Freight this morning to grab a few more. They were nearly wiped out of them from just a few days ago. I plan to give them out for Christmas gifts with my family but I'm going to write down my Dad's name on them. I'm even going to write, "To: Dad From: Dad on his." Ha! He'll hate it but I'll love it seeing his reaction!

They might actually be kind of handy if we print some 3D dividers for them like in the picture below!

@WeberWho About a month ago they were 50% off at CAD $15, I ordered the last one at the store closest to me for in-store pickup. Unfortunately it was badly twisted/deformed. I'll be watching out for the next half price sale

canuckland -
Saw those in store and considered getting one for little man. Wasn’t on sale. Was worried it would take up too much real estate in his room though.
