My folks had a cure for that; if I refused to eat my veggies, that's all I was served the next evening meal. And no snacks that night.Dyal_SC said:
I’ll give you a nod for this as well. Can’t get my kids to eat veggies currently … they’re little detectives for all things veggie."First method of estimating the intelligence of a ruler is to look at the men he has around him."

@Dyal_SC @Botch
Thank you. I can’t take much credit, as it’s mostly my wife’s good influence. They eat anything and everything. We eat quite spicy, and they tolerate even that. My wife’s approach is as Botch describes, except that she insists the uneaten meal be consumed at the earliest opportunity (i.e., breakfast the next morning). That happened only one or twice; the rest has honestly been smooth sailing. Both kids are adventurous eaters and have some level of interest in cooking.

We ate what ever we grew in the garden , a half beef bought from my uncle, and a few odds and ends from the store. The only thing that my Dad couldn't get me to eat was rutabagas. I once told my sister , about my niece, "no child willingly starves themselves to death. So she started leaving the food on one of those plastic kids picnic tables. That worked fine until she got a hungry little brother who ate any available food, then she started eating promptly.

Not likely. Trump probably needs his waffles cut up for him.Canugghead said:Nice breakfast, fit for Trump! -
Yeah, you are almost there: bellissime costine (or costolette or costicine). You need a plural there.GrateEggspectations said:
Costola would refer to a human rib.
Thanks btw! -
Thanks! I was expecting some great leftovers but there were none!johnmitchell said:@Paolo. Those look fantastic 😋 -
Wondered about the plural, and also whether costola was appropriate for animal proteins. Glad you are not in fact cooking costola! 😆Paolo said:

Rhubarb would have to be imported to my area but there is an excellent brand of frozen pie in that flavor. My nearest grocery store carries it. Now if they would just start to carry a gooseberry version .

Love strawberry-rhubarb!

@zaphod that looks like a great looking pie. I was about to make a comment on your dog being on heat but then read your post again😉Greensboro North Carolina

not really thread worthy but to finish the notes…. the above ABT variants were home grown banana peppers. had switched to sweet peppers recently to avoid having to eat 90% of the batch when we do jalapeños.
the filler was cream cheese, sun dried tomato, cilantro and garlic. the recipe called for peppered bacon so we probably would have done better with a little rub or just big cracked pepper. these were a great in-between pepper and didn’t regret eating two. -
Starting a month of saving for next dive trip - so working on what we have around: made some quick pickled habanero & serrano, pickled onions, black beans w/habanero + spices, fried cabbage, fried onions, homemade corn tortillas (star of the show), and fried plantains. Had some mezcal with ice cubes made from rum infused pineapples. Starting a jug of Tepache and two kinds of horchata. Lots of chaos and lots of fun.

I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Dude... as if the tacos weren't looking delicious enough, you drop the mezcal in.

Arroz Rojo (red rice) - typical base; long grain rice toasted/fried in butter, onions, habanero, tomato paste (fried), garlic, and a can of original Rotel. Added an umami bomb with some dried boney fish. After rice was done pulled boney fish out, diced it up fine and added it back in. Was killer on tacos with just fried poblanos. Quick easy meal packed with flavor. Had fresh figs from my tree and had some whiskey with figs and horchata (recipe had water added after blending - will
omit the water next time). Finished off the meal with baked fig tarts. Those were the star.
