If I was smart I would take an 11 month hiatus from this forum...but I won't!

Tuesday I had the "pleasure" of beginning a new chapter in my 80 year old life. I had 8 teeth pulled plus the removal of an implant. That was the test run of my mental and physical stamina. In 4 months I will go back and in one long morning have 15 more teeth removed plus 8 new implants inserted! The goal is by year end to be sporting a fine set of anchored permanent dentures!
These recovery periods mean I'll be on a soft diet for most of 2025. After just 4 days I'm already sick of broths, puddings, yogurt and ice cream! I'm really looking forward to trying scrambled eggs this Sunday. I hope I don't choke in glee!
Meanwhile I'll keep my jealous eyes on all the fine foods you great cooks will be posting! So carry on Eggers!

You will have to sell a lot of gaskets to pay for 15 implants. Judging by the two that I have.

No, the 8 new implants (4 up 4 down) will anchor the set of new permanent dentures.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

You keep on dishing out those ideas and we will put them into action for you!

I've got two implants now, always wondered what they did with them if full bridges were required further down the road.

These are 2 full "horseshoe" shaped dentures molded around pieces of titanium for the needed strength and with the 8 anchors they should not move much less break. Besides I'll be 81 when they finally get installed so in terms of years my lifetime usage is shorter and I don't plan to pop for an extended warranty!Botch said:I've got two implants now, always wondered what they did with them if full bridges were required further down the road.

That sounds rough Ron. Hope you are feeling ok.

Thanks! But you know the funny thing? I only took 1 hydrocodone/acetaminophen that first night which caused me to stay wide awake ALL night! I have talked with others who have had similar reactions. I just threw those things in the trash! Then I took 1 Advil the next day as a precaution and that's been it!DoubleEgger said:That sounds rough Ron. I’m glad that it hasn’t been too painful.RRP said:

Ron, I hope this all goes well for you.
At 85 my father in law did the same, had every one of his teeth pulled, posts set and all new dentures put in. It wasn't easy, but he's so happy now.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -
Hope all goes well Ron, I'm watching your progress closely so please don't take the hiatus.
I'll probably have more than half a dozen implants before long. Dumb question, can they not use any of the existing implants for the two permanent horseshoes?

I've been going the same thing for almost 3 months, just use your imagination when it comes to eating, I enjoyed an open faced Philly Cheesesteak last night. Rib meat is easy to cut off of the bone, a tender steak is good. Just figure out how can chew and go from there, don't let tooflessness dictate what you eat, adapt. GOOD LUCK!Owensboro, KY. Not a dumb question at all - I asked the same thing of my oral surgeon: Why was I being charged $655 to remove that existing one and then I will be charged $2,575 for the new one in the same location? He showed me 3 x-rays as proof which I could then understand that the angle of the old existing one was just way off from what the angle just HAD to be...and I agreed!Canugghead said:Hope all goes well Ron, I'm watching your progress closely so please don't take the hiatus.

@RRP -if there is anyone on this forum who can effectively deal with this it is you. But what an ordeal. Way to look for the positives.

GREAT idea! I've been getting there slowly with grape squeezins, but then liquor's quicker!lousubcap said:@RRP -if there is anyone on this forum who can effectively deal with this it is you. But what an ordeal. Way to look for the positives.

Hope all goes well Ron. Don’t run off, you can contribute more here when not Egging than most when Egging. Let us know your progress.

Well, kind Sir, I was in a dark place those 3 weeks being the only resident there at that nursing home as a physical rehab resident vs. all the rest there for a variety of reasons that the doors were monitored and locked! Darn. Thanks for sharing. Keeping my fingers crossed that stars will line up for me and the surgeon will be able to salvage some of my existing implants.RRP said:

Ron I have to imagine you’ve felt like you went a couple rounds with a prize fighter at various stages through all of this. I hope all the rest goes smoothly and that you’re able to dig in to some really nice Q on the other side."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

Thanks, John like I said I think the 8 removed Tuesday was just a test run of my mental and physical stamina, since the next bout is 15. I know one thing for sure...this liquid diet cleans out the tubes!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time
