SamIAm2 said:Watching Windy.com forecast for my location. Second time in a week for me. Will start feeling the effects of Hurricane Milton Wednesday about 9:00 am. The eye will pass just north of our location Thursday at about 10:00 am.The back wall of the storm will pass thru at 10:00 thru 7:00 pm and be gone by Friday at 11:00 pm to 7:00 am. It is going to be a huge, slow moving storm with highest predicted wind gusts of 49 mph for my location.

@Botch - Gordon was a mistake; I noticed it and corrected. J,K, and L were named tropical storms which did not become Hurricanes so Milton is the correct name for this storm. The new update this morning from Windy.com shows Milton traveling more quickly thru Florida but predicted wind gusts are higher at 56 mph for our location.Ubi panis, ibi patria.

@Botch - guess I should be using the edit function to update information on a post.

This seems particularly craven given the incoming storm:

This is a bit confusing, but the insurer they are talking about is an “Insurer of last resort” setup by the government to help people get insurance who couldn’t find affordable insurance on the private market. The Florida legislature signed a bill in August allowing this insurer to sell policies to the private sector, which seems strange considering they are supposedly insured by this company because they could not find affordable private options.JohnInCarolina said:This seems particularly craven given the incoming storm:

That is so sad and infuriating. I know how I feel knowing someone received that. I can't imagine what it's like for you.caliking said:Seems like a good spot to drop this…
Received in the mail this week. caliqueen heads a cultural group locally. This was addressed to her, at our home address (edited out). For some reason, this brave savior didn’t mail it with a return address. -
Is this one of the regulars throw away accounts? Private account I've never seen but treated as someone people know. I hate how the leaders from posting and recognition also have other handles.

With all things Florida insurance, I doubt the consumers are going to be happy with whatever policy they end up getting, if at all.Ozzie_Isaac said:

What are you referring too? I don’t think any troll accounts are in this thread. The letter above was physically mailed to Cali.BigGreenKev said:Is this one of the regulars throw away accounts? Built01 who started this. I don't recall ever seeing a post from them before and the way regulars are interacting it seems like they are a known person posting under a diff account.Ozzie_Isaac said:

Ah okay, that makes sense. The OP is using his real account. He brings counterpoints to a lot of the discussions here. Which I personally like. I like the conversations and discussions the point/counterpoints cause. A lot of the discussions and comments are excellent ways to help us identify our biases and examine our positions.BigGreenKev said:

Unbelievably sad that natural disasters immediately turn into political opportunities. I'm sure it has happened in the past, but this feels like a new low.Stillwater, MN

Today people have a platform on Social Media. They can spew all their hate, conspiracies, etc and then other like minded individuals can latch on and amplify their voices. In short, all your crazy uncles are able to band together and get their collective message out there.StillH2OEgger said:Unbelievably sad that natural disasters immediately turn into political opportunities. We have monetized eye-balls, not skill, talent, knowledge, or experience. Since people always look at train-wrecks, that is what we get now. Unfortunately, today people mistake Social Media for news.
Here is an example: I was sent this in the other day "Tent's setup at Duke, because tuition is so high kids cannot afford housing" was the tagline. This is actually a 30+ year tradition with students camping to get sporting event tickets.
I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Too funny re Duke tuition, it's a private school, how is that anyone's business anyway? Common sense hint - private schools in that echelon aren't going to allow tent cities. People just need to get back to thinking.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

This was posted by an account associated with Harris, so it is outwardly political. However, I think this is more under the banner of transparency and combating destructive rumors and misinformation. The post said the vote was just two weeks ago.Canugghead said:

This squares with some of the early discussion in this thread. I was thinking about the original premise of OP and thought, if the bipartisan border bill had passed instead of being shut down for politics, wouldn't that result in fewer people crossing the border and perhaps less government support needed and paid out? We have one side writing checks to help those that need help, regardless of politics. The other seems to ignore root causes and likes to pour gas and fan flames for political gain. It takes both to fix things.
If you're going to be upset about where the money goes, then support upstream solutions. Feels like the right to life reality, every life is sacred until it's born, don't expect us to help you then because socialism. Or the gun argument - it's not guns, it's mental illness, but don't infringe anyone's right to own a gun (or enforce red flag laws or put a **** ton of money into helping those with mental illness).
It's all just hollow BS.The healthcare insurance industry in this country is actually ahead of the government when it comes to root cause solutions and preventative actions. Let that sink in.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -
Yeah I had a good laugh at this.Ozzie_Isaac said:

The students camp out for men’s basketball tickets, for weeks at a time. They have a good amount of fun doing this, but they sneak back to their dorm rooms for showers every once in a while (there is an elaborate pass system that lets them do this without losing their place in line). And of course they are excused to attend class.
Our tuition is high for sure, but about half of the students are on some form of financial aid. And there’s a threshold for household income. I want to say it’s like $120k or so. So for families with household incomes below that, they don’t pay a dime in tuition. It’s fully waived.
To really compare schools, don’t look at the sticker price. The average cost of attendance (which most top schools publish) is a much better metric, because it factors in financial aid."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

The cost of the degree is one side of the equation, the benefit (defined by the student) being the other. For myself, that was the companies actively recruiting graduates from the campus in my program and starting salaries. The college I went to had a engaged placement office, with that information readily available.LBGE, LBGE-PTR, 22" Weber, Coleman 413GGreat Plains, USA

For sure. Some of the smarter university/college rankings are now factoring in “value added” - looking at graduation rates, how the university improves people overall, ROI, etc. The Washington Monthly puts out one like this. If I recall the UC-system schools do quite well in that kind of framework.dbCooper said:The cost of the degree is one side of the equation, the benefit (defined by the student) being the other.
