How did Florida make out? The media can’t pause two **** seconds of their political agenda fire hose to report on hurricane damage in Florida. I haven’t seen it reported anywhere. Asheville and western North Carolina have been destroyed and at least they got a nod from mainstream, so was the majority of the damage in NC? Did Florida make it out ok?

We are working with the animal foster care provider that we got our two dogs from. She informed us that the response has been fantastic into the Asheville area. So we are waiting for details to donate into the Ashe county community

I have seen plenty of coverage on Florida. Perhaps the problem is where you're getting your news from.

There was a large segment on 60 minutes last night that focused on hurricane damage in Florida and how the insurance companies are effectively screwing people down there. Worth a watch.

You’re probably right, I haven’t watched 60 minutes since Andy Rooney was on there. I zipped by Reuters and CNN and I did not see any coverage other than NC and I have been following that on wral.com, after reading the article @Legume I have a better idea of what is going on but I guess my bigger point was I don’t feel like you should have to dig through the internet to find information on a giant **** hurricane hitting Florida and destroying everything North and East. It reminds me of the Maui fires, covered it for a few days and back to he said she said politics.

The focus on NC probably has something to do with the fact that the spot that got it the worst is the mountains of western NC. That’s not normally a location you’d expect to be ravaged by a hurricane.

Based on what I have seen, the devastation there far exceeds anything in Florida. The maps of the rainfall over a 48 hour period tell the story - for whatever reason, that region got much more than anywhere else, including any part of Florida.

The US media has a pretty short attention span. I don’t know that this is about some preference for political coverage so much as chasing squirrels.

I love the NC mountains, we plan to retire there, or get a second house some day. One major consideration is on the water, or with a view. We were just at WCU a few weeks ago such a cool area, I don't think those folks could have seen this coming in a million years.

devastation starts around Cedar Key (some wind but mostly surge since the eye was 60-80 miles west) then counter-clockwise. horseshoe beach, steinhatchee, keaton beach are examples of massive destruction. that’s just what i have seen. drone videos have been out since the storm hit and very compelling.

inland florida had to have gotten some because the georgia stuff i am aware of (valdosta, augusta) is really bad. wind damage. power outages. atlanta had flooding in the places where it usually floods.

not to minimize it for atlanta but seeing the duration of power outages along the path when Atlanta is pretty much back to 100%… it was very bad along the path and east. the big rains ahead of the storm that saturated the ground were from southwest va down to tn, nc and atlanta. people in east ga, nw south carolina won’t have power until late in the week. take a look at georgia power or duke power outage maps.

east tn got a fair amount of coverage due to the rooftop hospital evacuation. on the west / nw side of the mountains, once you come over from nc on i-26, the elevation flattens out a bit into a valley (unicoi, erwin) and the flood rose and destroyed bridges. the farmland flooded by the nolichucky is just past where the nolichucky cuts through the mountains on the west/nw side of the valley.

west of boone nc into tn is more mountainous with similar damage.

my brother flew down saturday for vacation. staying in tampa and orlando. hasnt called back with any problems, moms just outside tampa. looked like the panhandle took the brunt of it but the storm quickly skipped over it from what i saw, but i didnt follow it much at all til monday morning when the carolinas were getting kicked. people from new england typically head into a hurricane to say they saw one, never want to see one like western carolina though

We had sustained winds around 60mph and 5" of rain. There are a lot of trees down, roofs tore up, siding damage to houses. We were in an exceptional drought leading up to this which left our ready to harvest crops vulnerable, causing over dry beans to swell and sprout in the pods and corn plants that had cannibalized themselves do to a lack of water to just fall over in the wind. It is going to be a mess but we are very fortunate at the same time
