My first order of smoking woods from Fruita Wood & BBQ Supply in Grand Junction, CO arrived today. I selected 6" Mini Splits and I am quite pleased with what I got! They are $33 per 10 pounds and that included the shipping cost which I think makes their price reasonable! Just being me I will still split some of them a bit more with a hatchet and probably will even cut them into 3" lengths.

Pecan is my favorite smoking wood. Love the smell!

@RRP - Glad you went with fruitawood.  Read the usage directions on the inside of the box but don't worry about it.  I routinely see the moisture content in the 11-12% range, while higher than kiln dried (nominally around 8%) it burns just fine. FWIW-

I want to know why my deli turkey had to smell like a bad fart during the very moment that I was doing a self checkout next to a women of the opposite sex.

Salmon!  I've got two assortments of hardwoods from Fruita, but no alder; I've used a plank of alder from the local hardwood dealer to smoke my salmon (I need to do this again soon!)

Salmon and other fish, PLUS chicken! Alder produces a sweet smoke which is "kind". Many people also feel alder works well on pork.

It sure does have a sweet flavor, I smoked some beef jerky with alder and it is delicious. I will try pork next!  Thanks @RRP

I ordered fuita chunks a few times. Thought they were great. They definitely ship green and bark on.

I've gotten wood from them several times, and always been happy with it.
