Seems there's a fairly new thermometer that is quicker than the Thermapen One. It outdraws the One by a whopping 0.25 seconds - just imagine what you can do with all those fractions of a second  that you'll accumulate over the course of a year!

Looks pretty sharp. Has a nice OLED display. Is waterproof and has a built-in magnet so you don't need an add on sleeve like with the One. Tip is also designed to measure surface temp which can be useful.

$109.00

This company also sells an interesting looking sous vide rig that is coming soon.

I do not use the decimal offering on my Thermopen or LavaTools thermos so I can safely pass on the 0.25 seconds, even when engaging in a caveman cook.
    But thanks for the info.
I'm sure there will be interest here.

The time isn't such a big deal for me when splitting hairs but that OLED screen though.....

I'll save you guys the time if looking for any cons:

    • The OLED screen is really hard to see during daylight hours. (Makes Sense)

    • The tip has zero protection (Giggity)

    • Weak magnet

I have 2 thermopens. I imagine that they have years left but new options are nice.

Great, I’ll not buy one to go with the electric pizza oven I didn’t purchase.

I purchased my first Thermapen 21 years ago and then for some stupid reason I bought a second one when that waterproof version came out 2 or 3 years later…but don’t ask me why!  But here’s my strange, but honest claim…both still work fine…and both of them still have their original batteries!

@RRP - there is great comfort in having a known backup available as in your case, especially when in the need to call in the reserve.  So, take comfort in your thermos.  You may want to stagger the use and battery replacement so they don't fail within the same cook... B)
However, battery replacement sounds like it may be a non-event for the life of the thermos.  =)

Well said Sir! Seeing I am about to turn 79 then if my first Thermapen battery is 21 years old so if I replace it now then my original Thermapen might last until I’m maybe 100 so should I just save my coins and not replace the “newer” one?

I've killed some thermapens, changed batteries in the tthermapop. If it's quick with frying oil I'm in. Well maybe if it cost less than the pop

Outback onions are sometimes amazing and many times awful.  No consistency.

I like the Lavatools Element for keeping an eye on oil temp. Mine came with a clip to fix the probe to the pot, and works well. 15% discount with code EGGHEAD.
