I'm thinking of maybe getting one of these. Any recommendations?

I recommend getting one. I use one as a compliment outside all the time.
I have a Duxtop 9100MC. It was around $70. I abuse the heck out of it, and it keeps working. It is very loud on the higher settings and I find that very annoying inside. Outside it is okay.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

I have one of the Nuwave units. They now make soooo many versions I wouldn’t know what to buy. Yes, thrift store buy. But it really works well. Check Craigslist or your other local online listings. I’m sure you could find one cheap.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas

I love this thing SOOOOO much. It's the Breville Control Freak. It's a temp controlled 1800 watt induction cooktop;. It's extremely accurate like a sous vide (can be used as a sous vide)

That Breville unit is an amazing piece of kit. I don't use my cooktop for things that need finesse, but with a device like that it would be fun to try.Thatgrimguy said:

I use it regularly for things like frying so I don't have to maintain temp manually, simmering for a perfect long simmer without ever boiling, and I use it anytime I'm making a ganache or a hollandaise (just throw everything in a cold skillet and stir some as it comes up to temp and you end up with a perfect emulsion).Ozzie_Isaac said:That Breville unit is an amazing piece of kit. I'm still figuring out other ways to really take advantage of the control.XL, Small, Mini & Mini Max Green Egg, Shirley Fab Trailer, 6 gal and 2.5 gal Cajun Fryers, BlueStar 60" Range, 48" Lonestar Grillz Santa Maria, Alto Shaam 1200s, Gozney Dome, Gateway 55g Drum -
I got this one based on some online reviews (I forget if it was wirecutter or ATK). I was thinking about an induction range for my new house and wanted to play with one before I mude a decision.

As a plus, indoors they dont throw off a bunch of heat. It just causes the bottom of pan to get hot. Put one in the top of a egg table once as a experiment

Is there any aside from the poly Sci that will modulate and just keep a pot of something “ warm” … I use portable lp burners now but you are constantly tweaking the flame, my hot mats just not enough umph for a large pot of anything…Visalia, Ca @lkapigian

I own a couple of these and for a gas stove it makes it much easier to make micro adjustments for simmering or lower.lkapigian said:Is there any aside from the poly Sci that will modulate and just keep a pot of something “ warm” … I use portable lp burners now but you are constantly tweaking the flame, my hot mats just not enough umph for a large pot of anything…

not sure why it has a wattage in the description though lol, ordered a coupleVisalia, Ca @lkapigian -
Very doable, even with the cheaper ones mentioned. Only issue is that you need an electrical connection, and not all outdoor venues may have one available.lkapigian said:Is there any aside from the poly Sci that will modulate and just keep a pot of something “ warm” … I use portable lp burners now but you are constantly tweaking the flame, my hot mats just not enough umph for a large pot of anything…#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -

That's the one I have. Bought about six years ago and it hasn't failed me yet. Recommended.Ozzie_Isaac said:I have a Duxtop 9100MC.Cincinnati, Ohio. Large BGE since 2011. Still learning. -
Not a Poly Sci, but seems solid.

You should hear the sound this induction coil makes. Its deafening.Ozzie_Isaac said:It is very loud on the higher settings and I find that very annoying inside.

I bet! Do you use that to preheat prior to welding?SGH said:

This particular one is used to preheat the pipe before we apply Fusion Bonded Epoxy.Ozzie_Isaac said:I bet! Do you use that to preheat prior to welding?
However we do use much smaller versions to preheat for welding.Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.
