Seriously? I like my Tel-Tru dome thermo because I can see the temp from ten feet away. Looks like there may be a very small LCD screen in the middle, but this thing seems like a solution in search of a problem.Cincinnati, Ohio. Large BGE since 2011. Still learning.

A WiFi version would make too much sense.
I'm sure they will eventually make a WiFi version but need to make money off the Bluetooth version first."The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

I’m in the “spin the thermo to your desired temp when the needle points to 12 o’clock so I can see it across the yard” club

That's sorta what I was thinking too... It would be nice to ask Alexa/Google what the temp is...WeberWho said:A WiFi version would make too much sense.

$100 for a Bluetooth device? Good luck with that!

Does anyone else get the feeling BGE has some like 85 year old calling all the shots as to what "new" products to offer. Even the design of this looks cheap. Gotta hand it to KJ at least when they come up with something new it's something innovative and original. Even if I feel their product overall is inferior.

Quite frankly, I am surprised that someone hasn't come out with something like this already. I am surprised Thermoworks or Tel-tru hasn't come up with a wifi-bluetooth-extended range solution already. It could be "universal" and basically replace any thermo on most grills.
I know they exist, but they aren't really marketed as a replacement.Clinton, Iowa -
This is what kids are for, go check the temp and come back and tell me. Stop at the fridge on the way back and get me a beer.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

I wish I had thought of this. Would have been rich. Genius idea. Add solar charging and all weather capability and would have been a homerun. As is, easily a double. Nicely done BGE.
Like others have said, now that we see it, such a simple idea.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

I think typical range for bluetooth is 30 feet (or much less). If I am that close to the grill, I can just look to see what the temp is. Wi-Fi would work much better.WeberWho said:A WiFi version would make too much sense.

You really cannot make this sh!t up:

Hard to hate the price. No thanks to the probe wires though. Just imagine having the probe wires move all around everytime you open the dome. That would drive me crazy.JohnInCarolina said:"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

The difficulty with Wi-Fi is power consumption. Bluetooth can be very efficient and allows for decent battery life; Wi-Fi, not so much. Something that would make sense here is a thermometer with a zigbee emitter and a receiver with that can be plugged in to a power outlet to make the bridge with Wi-Fi.
Being above a source of heat and potentially under full sun also limits options.

I don’t think the probe wires are needed to have the dome temperature monitored. I think those are just if you want to monitor the protein.WeberWho said:

The dome thermometer would stay in place but the food probes would raise up and down everytime the dome was opened and closed. That would drive me crazy. You would have to make sure they don't bunch up or end up being pushed down into the hot egg. For $25 minus the probes it's still a good deal. If you're looking for that type of thing."The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

Yeah that was my point. It's basically the same thing BGE is selling, except it's $75 less.WeberWho said:JohnInCarolina said:

It’s actually pretty cool. Yes, I wish it was WiFi, but it’s really handy to keep an eye on the temp as I’m in the house prepping the food. The app is simplistic, but lets you set low and high temp range. So far the charge seems to last a long time as well. Craig aka Cmac Cooks

I guess it depends on your situation and how you expect to use it. When I start my fire and prep food inside, it’s handy to keep track of the temp. So for me, I’d say yes it’s worth it.vb4677 said:
