Master chef vs Royal oak lump…. Master chef smokes a lot but it seems good… Royal oak is kinda og and is decent.
What is everyone’s thoughts. Master chef is $1 cheaper. And every dollar counts.

If you google best charcoal jealous devil shows up a lot…. But locally for me and cheap is master chef vs Royal oak.

My suggestion: try a couple of different brands. Figure out what works for you and then go from there.Mr1egg said:If you google best charcoal jealous devil shows up a lot…. But locally for me and cheap is master chef vs Royal oak."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

I knew Masterchef is crappy tires’ house brand so I checked its reviews there. Interestingly numerous bad MC reviews received the same canned response from Consumer Affairs at RO! The example below is priceless - same response from RO when pissed MC customer threatened to buy RO next time 😂Mr1egg said:Master chef vs Royal oak lump…. Bottom line: MC is undercover RO, ya save your loonie.

I like to eat what I cook on my Egg. That being the case I look for the lump that works/tastes the best, not what is the cheapest. I've used Royal Oak with some success, but ran into a bad batch a few years ago. Rockwood became available near me and that's all I use now. It's always been excellent.Michiana, South of the border.

Lump charcoal discussions here are like religion elsewhere. The search function will yield numerous threads on this topic. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

Whisky - Crown Royal
Jeans - Wrangler
Bottled Water - Dasani
Charcoal - Rockwood
Motor oil - Mobil 1
Laundry stain treater - Spray-N-Wash
Milk - 2%
Toothpaste - Crest
I keep the above in a notepad file so I can easily copy/paste on any of the multitude of forums I read where every one of them has a million threads about the "best" <fill-in-the-blank>.
Anyway, I use Rockwood. My favorite grill shop always has it. Really, there is no other reason. If they were out, I would grab something else. Sorta like bottled water.Clinton, Iowa -

I use Royal Oak or B&B. Occasionaly when I feel like splurging or have a coupon and a need for a neutral smoke, Rockwood. My dad bought a bag of Jealous devil one time. It must be from hell because it sure smoked like it was.

Master chef smokes like crazy but I honestly kinda like that. I smoke out the whole neighborhood until the charcoal stops.Royal oak not that much smoke which makes it boring.
wish I could get my hand on B and B or rock wood -
IIRC you’re in Windsor area? Next time you’re in TO visit Costco Business Centre in Scarborough, they stock Basques Nature’s Own year round at a very reasonable price. It’s sugar maple hardwood lump from Quebec, very neutral pleasant smoke. They close at 6pm and no food sampling frills like regular Costcos.Mr1egg said:Master chef smokes like crazy but I honestly kinda like that. x2 on that stuff. Fireplace store here stocks it for some reason. Love it. Rockwood is also good and delivers at a good price.Canugghead said:IIRC you’re in Windsor area? Maple leaf premium from crappy tire. It's a little more money. No smell, OK size and lights easy. I think it's the same as bge maple. I burn 20lbs a week, cost matters. Royal oak was my go to but quality really dropped last year.

Put little faith in anything you google "best [whatever]" for. With any product sold on Amazon, there are companies with bots that make reviews based off the AMZ A+ listing content automatically, basically just rewriting the "romance points" and pulling from reviews. Then they pay for the google ad words for the "best of [whatever]" hoping you read it and click on any of the Amazon affiliate links to purchase the product (that's why they always link to our 3-bag box.....because it's more money.) Whichever are the top 5 performers on Amazon, will always be there top five as they are most likely to sell and get them the referral money.Mr1egg said:If you google best charcoal jealous devil shows up a lot…. There was one of these reviews that got screwed up and had charcoal mixed with a "review" on luggage. The luggage burned long and hot, and our bags fit plenty of shoes, clothes, etc. I wish I would have saved it.
Just google best TV, best dash cam, best flashlight, etc and you'll see all these reviews look nearly identical.....and they just repeat what's in the listing. No one is actually testing or reviewing these products, they're just reviewing the listing. -
