Sumac ?

I was watching one of the BBQ shows and one of the
contestants used sumac (with just salt and pepper) in his rub. It got rave reviews from the judges. The
only sumac I was aware of was Poison Sumac, but apparently this sumac is a
spice. Has anyone tried it?

all the time. Very common in Middle Eastern/Mediterranean diets. It's in Thai food a lot as well- that dipping sauce you get a Thai places (Jeow) has sumac in it. It's a staple here.

There are a lot of different sumac species, I think there are like 14 that are Native to the US.

I think 15 as down in MO we called the one in our yard a #$%^&* sumac since it was so invasive with shoots constantly popping up from the sprawling shallow roots that we would trip over!TideEggHead said:There are a lot of different sumac species, I think there are like 14 that are Native to the US.

Busy! We did sell our other house this week which is a huge load off. Seems work is never dine with the new place but not having to deal with another house an hour and a half away makes things easier to manage. Hope to start cooking more again soon. We have been cooking quick basics for the past few months but haven't had our new kitchen/grill area put together.kl8ton said:@The Cen-Tex Smoker
