There's at least a few threads on this topic. The correct answer is if it is a dog on a bun - of course it's a sandwich.“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Diçk

Hell yes! After many years of searching I finally found a terrific brand of natural casing wieners. Those crappy big name wieners are probably why your friends don’t appreciate hot dogs! Without ever slicing open the casings so as to seal in the tasty meat juices then I add my version of The Varsity Club (killer) chili dog sauce and diced onions.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

It's meat between bread, so a sandwhich. There are all kinds of sandwhiches with different shaped bread, so why not?

Of course it's not a sandwich. It's a hot dog. And for what it's worth, Die Hard is not a Christmas movie.Stillwater, MN

Wrong on both fronts. Die Hard is definitely a Christmas movie, one of the only action Christmas movies there are.StillH2OEgger said:Of course it's not a sandwich. It's a hot dog. And for what it's worth, Die Hard is not a Christmas movie. -
Okay. Now what are acceptable toppings/condiments for hotdogs?
-
Most will say no ketchup. I say whatever the hell you want

If an ice cream sandwich qualifies then I’m all for the hotdog making the cut.Greensboro, NC

This right here is one of the best things I’ve seen on this topic. Really makes you think about what is and what is not a sandwich, and why.Gulfcoastguy said:
Basically, a hot dog is the Switzerlands of sandwiches. I’m not sure how I feel about this..."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

As many as you can to cover the taste of the hotdog wishing it was a bratwurst.Gulfcoastguy said:Okay. Now what are acceptable toppings/condiments for hotdogs?"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

By itself, it is a sausage.Gulfcoastguy said:Just carrying an argument from a car forum over and looking to see if foodies agree. You did not specify whether it was in a bun.
Therefore, answer D, not enough information -

It's not The Varsity Club, it's just The Varsity. An Atlanta institution for a gazillion years. "What'll ya have?" (I feel like the soup nazi!)
So what is this terrific brand of natural casing dogs you are talking about? I like Pearls, but they're kind of a pain to get.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

RRP is speaking specifically about a private club in which we both are members. We do not typically publicize it, but The Varsity Club is a Harvard institution dating back to 1783. Restricted to 100 members at any one time, it holds dinners the evening before every Harvard-Yale game. The dinners feature a chili topping on foot long steamers.Carolina Q said:
