I will raise a glass (or more) as I am no longer running submerged and undetected.
Submarines once!
Stay healthy and safe out there.

Wow!! They're just a wee bit older than you are, Cap!

I kid, I kid =) Will  make it a point to raise a glass to the force, and you, tonight.

    Thank you, Frank.

DIVE! DIVE! OOGAH - OOGAH! DIVE! DIVE!

I hope those of you in the know paused a moment yesterday to reflect on the anniversary of the loss of the USS Thresher.

EDIT: Out of this tragedy was born the SUBSAFE program, designed to ensure all systems exposed to sea pressure remain intact, and to ensure systems necessary for recovery from flooding remain operational. So this means that a seawater valve can be traced from the raw materials, smelting, manufacturing, etc until it is installed in to a SUBSAFE boundary, to ensure that all quality standards are met and maintained throughout the entire life cycle of that component.

Cheers Cap!  I was on the USS Saratoga (VA 37) on a Med cruise in the summers of 70 & 71, and while in port got to tour a sub.  You guys had a lot of well deserved neat benefits that we didn't have.  It would take an exceptional person to serve under those circumstances.  Definitely earned my respect! Without a doubt you earned what you recieved.

Promised to raise a glass in your, and your comrades’, honor... I may have lost count of how many glasses were eventually raised...

Time for a submarine story! I wasn't even in one, but my brother was.

Toodling along in the North Atlantic one day, trying to be the bottom, my brother was woken from a sound sleep in his rack by the boat angling up an alarming degree, and red emergency lights flashing, sirens, etc... Surfacing like the Seaview, the crew soon learned that they had rammed an undersea mount, and seriously b!tched up the sub. When the British towed them back in to Holy Loch, the Captain, XO, and Navigator all got escorted off to the ends of the careers. Seems someone drew a line right across that little mount on the chart, and no one noticed.

The sub was irreparable, and sent to the breakers. Shortened his enlistment six months, too.
