Tommy Lasorda managed the Dodgers for all or parts of 21 consecutive seasons and worked for the team into his final years

What a character, eh? One of my favorite managers!

    I respect the hell out of him.  Bigger than life.

    It does pain me to say this, but I’m glad he got to see them win this year, even if it’s just an asterisk WS win.

    True competitor, gentleman and ambassador of the game.  Throwback in the finest sense of the word.  
    Mike Piazza owes him forever.
    @Legume- No asterisk for this season.  They ran the table with the rules in place.
    Now asterisks belong with 2017 Astros since MLB went spineless and did not vacate their World Series win.

    As a kid in SoCal, and a Dodger fan , I remember Walter Alston as manager. Tommy Lasorda was the new kid taking over the reins . He will be missed in Dodger Blue!

    was just going to post this, but thought I would see if someone did first. Loved him and the Dodgers since little league as I played on the Dodgers. Nobody will ever forget Kirk Gibson’s HR in the World Series.

    You played for the ML Dodgers or a little league Dodger team?  The game of baseball lost a great one.

    No one loved baseball more than Lasorda. Jo, his wife of more than 60 years, once told him that he loved baseball more than he loved her, and he agreed, then playfully added, "But I love you more than I love football or basketball."

    I was at the Montgomery Inn, one evening having dinner with clients. It is a place somewhat famous due to celebrities that drop in for Ribs while in Cincinnati, so it was kinda cool when us regular folks meet or see celebs in that facility.

    Turns out, when the Dodgers and Reds hooked up in Cincinnati, that was his place. He was eviscerating a couple of full racks, and stopped whenever anyone came over for an autograph or just to meet him.

    Much respect from me came at the end of the night, before he left, he ordered 50 racks per night for the homeless shelters in Cincinnati each night the Dodgers were in town. His wallet and Dodger money.

    Class and kind. Humanitarian. He will be missed.

    Great story.

    When I lived in Cincy, the Rib/Duck combo at the Boathouse was one of my favorite meals!
