But how can they go in all different directions once they're sleeved in tech-flex?alaskanassasin said:That could help a bit but the wires are mostly going in different directions
All three wires would side into one section of the sleeving.
Careful. It's nylon. Temperature rating for the sleeving is lower and not the same as OEM.
Only do the section of the wires not touching the cooker. -
Prime Rib or Brisket?THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

What is the default setting? I just plugged it all in and turned it on. Having done nothing else. Bueler? BUELER? -
Answer: Damper appears to be closed

Well I'm stumped. I communicate with SmoBot next week on it.
I can't bring up the wifi on this thing. I tried a bunch of browsers, old, new. And if I try to knowingly connect to the wrong spot, I get the same behavior. My neighbor has a hotspot called "The Brothel". I've had my systems pointed at that AP for quite some time now, hoping to get inside to sneak a peak behind the curtains... But when I try the wrong password there, I get nothing back either. Just pinwheel.
Argh if wifi isn't just the most awkward part of any IOT device.
I'm still hopeful though. I'm going to run'er just as she presented herself to me as a weee babby. Right out of the box.
I'll just monitor the thing on 192.168.4.1.
I think I read somewhere it takes sligtly more juice this way, when it's the access point itself instead of a client.
Little woman is coming home with some shoulder!!!!
Watch me screw this up too.
Stay tuned. -
Had a similar problem, Eric asked if I had a HP printer, Yes, unplug it and try again. It worked, now plug printer back in. Never had any more conflict.
South of Columbus, Ohio. -
What @alaskanassasin said or if you need it quick just contact Smobot. Curtis and Eric are very responsive.
-
Ah thanks you guys. I'll get on it next week. I'm not worried about the wifi part.
I don't think it's an HP printer. I have one, but it's just a LaserJet 4350TN. older, but reliable business class beast; no wifi.
And it's kind of fun to take things apart and see what makes them chooch. I got a hint of some frameworks back there...

Just doing some unfurling. I should probably take some shots before we stick these things in the cooker.

-
@alaskanassasin - the cables seem alright as-is. They have a nice weight to them, and lay straight once they're unfurled.
You know sometimes, cables have that memory where they remember the shape they were in from the factory? These don't do that.
I know nothing about RTD thermometers, but it looks like they did a nice job with the transitions from braided cable to probe. Also the headphone jack plug seems beefy. We've all had those fail on an old iPhone, right?
Do you guys leave the servo part of it outside? Or are you bringing the servo portion of SmoBot inside? I usually just put the ceramic cap on top and throw the cast iron inside the egg. -
And if you send me a sticker. I'm gonna stick it.
-
Well, running a test cook first.
I admit, I fumbled around a tad bit. I found out about this fancy button on the front called "Auto". It makes it chooch.
But somehow, after I plugged in all the accessories, hooked it up to Egg #2, and let'er rip.....
And WiFi suddenly works. I thought I'd give it one last attempt. I wonder if it was the missing accessories? -

Heading to 250 -
Weirdest part is hearing the phantom fan I'm so accustomed to hearing. And realizing it's your neighbor using a power tool. And your cooker has no fan.
-
should redirect tocome on guys! don't make me regret a cloud device. i'm not anti-cloud, I'm just pro-solitude.
And yes I know it works without cloud. But I want moar. -

She's done what we hired her to do. Mission accomplished.
Don't worry. The Ram Board in the photo above has been rained on. It won't burn even tho it's so close to my cooker. (/s). I think that symbol is to end sarcasm.
Anyway. Stay tuned for tomorrow's fun. I want to unplug some stuff while it's running and put it through is paces.
And the result of tonight's shoulder.

Yeah. I've watched so many AvE videos I've adopted his language.
Highly recommend his videos on YouTube if you want to expand your vocab.
Factory termination. Looking good.
@alaskanassasin I get that cable complaint now. Don't but that tech flex. It's not great against the other braids on the OEM cables. Almost incompatible.
I'm thinking zip ties for the moment.
😎 -
-
Ya zip ties seem to make it a little more manageable. Cable management is always a compromise unless it's a permanent installation.

Ty-Rap TY23MX 4". If you do it. Use good side cutters so they're not scratchy. Oww -
Whew doggy!! We're having fun now. Someone find my cowboy hat.
I did the universal 5 second reset on the reset button, cuz the wifi is still fux0r3d you know. And I must have booted to a backup partition or something funky?
It did say something bout "Turning screen off" too, just before this.
Kinda special.
Standby while I google the actual reset sequence. Apparently I'm the only one that thinks it's depressing the reset button for 5 seconds and applying power.
We having fun now!!!!
-
It appears I need to figure out what I really did with that button and undo it so I can get this shoulder on.
I'll take'er apart and see whats under the hood. Find some documents and figure out how to get back to neverland.
Ah ..... freakin wifi. i think i got it figured out here tho. -
screw the rebound chick too.
I press what looks like a reset button to get wifi to work, and she boots into some development mode, with no screen?
Wifi works, but she doesn't seem to want to control anything.
And the front screen is completely blank.
Maybe this whole scene is still just in its infancy.
I mean, you can't even redirect a SSL site from http to https? and you want me to setup an account with you?
No thank you.
Shoulder's going back in the fridge. Next.
-
I'm not kidding too. I want to get back to cooking. I do. Just wifi reception kinda sucked and well. I saw this reset button. Hmmmm.
Yeah. Don't recommend that you use anything to press that button. It makes it stop chooching.
https://youtu.be/vul3jcnVavU
I even had it ramped up from 200 to 250 when i pressed it.
Oh for the love of God. Someone make me a device that doesn't scare me like a house of cards.

Someone

Here it was.
A couple of photos of the max setting I found. 600... Never cooked anything with a pit probe attached above 400 really. But their probes are probably rated for 600.
Dang it if that little reset button wasn't so damn attractive.... I'd be smoking right now. -
Label on the pork shoulder says its "ALWAYS TENDER".
So I probably don't need to cook it..... I'll just serve it up tomorrow as-is.
Puffery.... ffs. -
I'll give it another shot... I'll pretend I didn't see that button if you do (naw, I'll fess).
I think I need to call in for tech support now tho.
I'll post you on how that goes. -

Don't worry. I'll get her in the sack at least once and post about it.
Maybe I'll buy every ATC and poke the hell out of it to be fair. You know.... Cuz maybe they all suck.
