FWIW, I ate a Popeye's spicy chix sammich for lunch today.

Holy shite! It was amazing. I don't know if it's because I've eaten almost exclusively our own cooking for the last 8 months, but it was REALLY good. Better than CFA, which is nearly sacrilegious to say in TX. Best fast food offering I've had in recent memory.

I went and picked up a curbside order of groceries and grabbed one of those on my way home.  It was delicious I forgot how good it was.

I think Popeye's sandwich is good, but I actually believe I prefer a plain bun like CFA has.
A regular bun with Popeye's chicken would be a great combination. BTW regular pickle slices would be good too.

IMHO, the Popeyes experience varies wildly from location to location unlike Chick-fil-A. Popeyes seems to have to have the higher ceiling and the lower floor.

The Popeyes near my work, excellent sandwich. The Popeyes near my home, trash.

Nothing wrong with a little BK action every once in awhile.

I stopped in Culvers a few weeks back and ordered a butter burger. The employee who took my order must have thought I said something different. My butter burger came with nothing on it other than the burger and bun. Zero condiments. For being 100% boring it was actually really tasty. I never realized how good their burger and seasoning was with everything else hiding the flavor. I'm not sure I'd order it that way again but it gave me a whole new appreciation for their burgers.

  • Popeyes in my area is ultra greasy. I would rather go to Raising Canes for fried chicken strips though their French fries are pretty sad.

The experience of eating a Popeyes sammich is better than Chick Fil A.  The next 45 minutes is pretty rough though.

The Popeye's chkn sammy is pretty good considering I'm not into chkn sammys.

I really like their spicy fried chicken, dirty rice, red beans and rice.  But i might go there once a year on average.

I can’t remember the last time I had a BK burger but I remember from my teenage years that they were the better tasting burgers of the food chains around here.

I have not been to a fast food joint in decades, so I don't know what they are like now. When I was in high school I worked at a McDonald's. It was a company store that was used for training managers, so everything was by the book. The food seemed good at first, but after a while everyone pretty much got tired of it. The one thing did when the managers were feeling lenient, was to put a fish filet and a quarter pound burger on a Big Mac bun. Fast food surf and turf.

I was at my shop last night and SWMBO called me and asked I'd stop by Wendy's on the way home.  Me: I don't want to eat any of that disgusting crap...  her: oh, wait...we have leftover pizza.  Nevermind.

I actually don’t like CFA, once you notice the cinnamon in the breading, it’s over.  I don’t get it, don’t like their breading style either.

I had Popeyes chicken sammy about a month ago, it was great!  In Austin, there is a place on Burnet that does Nashville hot chicken. That’s really popular now.

I want to try the golden chick cholula chicken because I’m bored AF.

But of all of the fast food places, Wendy's has one of the best burgers!  Healthy?  Not likely but I just can't get off the junk food diet.

Why not take this further? (I hope this doesn't blow up into a war!)  If you frequent fast food joints, what are your favorite items?

    For me:

Burgers - Wendy's double or In N Out or Five Guys
    Fries - Freddy's or McDonalds
    Chicken fingers - Cane's
Chicken sandwich - CFA (Haven't tried Popeyes yet)
Fried Chicken - Popeye's (Quality varies though from store to store though)

This thread morphed into something totally different, from what I expected, but I'll play here:
    For me:
Breakfast - Sausage Biscuit, sans egg, with mustard and the hash brown, McDonalds
    Fries - McDonald's
Hardshell Tacos - Mebbe Del Taco.  Taco Bell now uses cheese as a decoration, not an ingredient; Taco Time uses enough cheese but their shells taste 17 years old, and we don't have Taco Johns here in utard.  I prefer to make my own.
Chicken Sammich:  the Popeyes gives me a strong stomachache, haven't tried the CFA.  Haven't tried BK either (I must've tried McD's sometime over the years, but it didn't leave any impression (pos/neg) on me.

I am a bit fond of Wendy's chili, on occasion.  And their burgers are okay.

The best part of Retirement is that I almost never frequent any fast-food joints, anymore, unless I'm uber-hungry and impatient.

I remember mad cow clearly. We had some sheep and a few cows at home at the time (my parents), so I'm familiar with scrapie in sheep as the origin, which was never considered transmissible to humans. I never shared the paranoia about eating beef back then.

In Texas if your fast food top choices can't be found at Whataburger or Taco Cabana - then you don't need it.  An exception can be made for the Popeye's chicken sandwich.

I honestly don't know how the other places stay in business here.

I remember a Long John Silver / A&W combo in Austin, not sure it lasted very long.

A&W 40 years ago was the ****.  Great burgers and onion rings, long before their root beer showed up in cans.  I don’t know what their geographic spread was then.
