The two you mention are nice (and sure look pretty) but are they really worth 3X the price over something like one of these?

thats very similar to the one i have. its rusted to death and looks very sketchy when cooking for a crowd. kinda looking to the helfire with the higher temps if i ever get back into brewing, or the edelmetal looks like its easier to fine tune but that copper will never stay shiny up at camp. something that stays sterile looking. both have the castiron heads and thats what finally gave in on my old one but its maybe 30 years old now

With all due respect, that may be fine for shrimp or crawfish, but the man is cooking lobster out of the back of a Range Rover.HeavyG said:The two you mention are nice (and sure look pretty) but are they really worth 3X the price over something like one of these?

Do you guys with the edelmetal ones have the issue with the finish flaking off?

I’ve heard of several instances of the copper coating on the legs and burner flaking off over time if left out in the weather.fishlessman said:TEXASBGE2018 said:Do you guys with the edelmetal ones have the issue with the finish flaking off?

I’ve got a $45 King Cooker. Stays out 90% of the year. Used mainly for crabs and crawfish. Is made of aluminum and not pot metal. Has held up thus far. Single outlet burner, not multiple jets like some. Got it at Academy

@fishlessman that is, dare I say, one of the benefits of the covid fish marketplace in New England. Lobsters, oysters, clams and tuna are all cheaper than I think I’ve ever seen them. My local guy had gorgeous blue fin at half the price of striper last week!fishlessman said:was 60 bucks for 10 hardshell chix this weekend, hard to beat -

the blue fin at this place down the street was 8.99 a pound, cheaper than the cod. would have been on the plate but the crowd i had over would have wanted me to way over cook it. next week if they have it, 8.99 in a tourist trap is just crazy

Sadly, the seafood industry is taking a beating. As a result, I paid through the nose for 4dz select blue point crabs Saturday. $50/dz live. They were selects, and full. I’ll never complain about the price of meat again.fishlessman said:CornfedMA said:

I have a covered area to cook in. I have this stock pot range that has 110,000 Btu's. I have it setup for natural gas.
It does a good job and is a very sturdy and stable to use with large pots.

Please look at an asian international market. They have heavy duty 80,000 and 100,000 btu jet burners. Not to mention cheap.

My Edelmetall has been outside in the brutal New Orleans heat, rain and humidity for years and whatever coating they put on the copper has been a rock star.______________________________________________I love lamp..

i went with the hellfire because i use this pot alot. theres a perforated stainless floor on the bottom that lifts the jars off the bottom and adds a steaming area for the lobsters, it will steam (20) two pound lobsters at one time. i like the idea of 4 supports on the hellfire for my homemade pot over the three on the edellmetall

@smokehollow83 Here is a link : https://www.amazon.com/Star-601SPRF-Star-Max-Stock-Standing/dp/B00UBVYO7S
By shopping around you should be able to find a better price. Your local restaurant supply may even carry it in stock.
It is excellent for food pressure canning. -
