Norah and I have been board lately so we’ve been trying to find new ways to use the our cookers. Well today we wanted to make something for a “treat”.  This time of year we crave elephant ears, so why not try to make some.

The recipe (still needs tweaking):
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 ½ cups warm water

Combine flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir in 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water. Knead until soft. Shape dough into balls about 3 inches in diameter. Flatten into patties 1/2 inch thick.  Fry them 1 at a time in oil or shortening that is 350ish. You’ll need to flip them over a few times to make sure they are GBD.  Once they are done drain them on a towel and the sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar.

Few photos of today’s cook.  Thanks for looking

Looking good @ryantt - I have never heard of an elephant ear.  It looks kinda like a solid version of a funnel cake.

Yum!  My favorite way to dress them is with honey and powder sugar.

It’s not a soft as a funnel cake, it’s more bread like.

Some good snacking there. North of the 49th, specially in the Ottawa region we have a similar fried dough called beaver tails.
    Great post.
