Should I tell her - or wait for a telltale reaction?

Today I made a pot of our favorite BBQ sauce - a recipe first posted 19 years ago by Mike Flaherty. It is called J.K's Wild Boar Soul BBQ Sauce. Though I have made it MANY times over the years I don't trust memory and do follow the recipe - except today near the VERY end!
I discovered we had no chipotle, but had some cayenne and saw no reason to drive clear to the store for the chipotle. Instead of using 1 tea of chipotle I used 1 T of cayenne! It wasn't until I was bottling it that I discovered this batch has some serious heat! Doing the math I see instead of 2.5k to 8k on the Scoville scale this batch has 90k to 150k of heat! My wife isn't a fan of such heat, but this is 2 quarts of sauce which I would hate to pitch!
Should I tell her - or wait? LOL

I’d make another batch sans the heat and combine - or just risk it. Either way, don’t throw it away.Memphis, TN

A teaspoon in 2 quarts doesn’t sound hot to me. But then I have used 4 Chocolate Habaneros in the same amount of sauce. I am planting Jamaican Scotch Bonnet peppers and will try it with them this fall.

It already had 2.5 cups of sugar and I'm a diabetic so I already am risking it, but thanks for your idea.Dondgc said:maybe add some sugar to tone down the heat?Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
It has a nice taste to me, but there definitely has a after bite kicker!mEGG_My_Day said:I’d make another batch sans the heat and combine - or just risk it. Either way, don’t throw it away.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
I said 1 teaspoon of chipotle is what I usually put in, but instead I put in 1 Tablespoon or 3 times as much of cayenne! Even on the lower end of possible heat then 2.5K vs 90K of heat is a BUNCH!Gulfcoastguy said:A teaspoon in 2 quarts doesn’t sound hot to me. How comfortable is your couch? Confess and let her try it.

Ron what do you imagine the telltale reaction would be here? What does Pat do if she eats something that’s too spicy for her tastes?"I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

Just declare victory and see where you land. Gotta figure the worst that can happen is that it's all yours.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

If you like it I'd keep it. If not, no shame in trashing it. Either way I would make another batch.Upstate SC

My wife did something along the same lines a couple or more few years ago. Called for X amount of paprika, she substituted X amount of cayenne. All in a batch of chili.
Holy Mxxxxx Fxxxxx!
Haven't let her live it down. -
Wife accidentally grabbed some of my habenero salsa. She was unhappy, I had tears in my eyes from laughing.
Honestly, I recommend telling her so she can provide informed consent. If she chooses not to eat it, then more for you.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

You know the funny thing about this BBQ sauce? I swear if I had a blind taste with it and Redd Mudd I’m not sure you could tell which was which! I always meant to bring a 4 oz bottle over for your Father to try. In fact that was right after he gave me those several logs from that wild cherry tree down behind their home. Next thing I knew they moved to AZ!!Ozzie_Isaac said:Wife accidentally grabbed some of my habenero salsa. She was unhappy, I had tears in my eyes from laughing.

NEVER confess to a "crime" you have not yet been accused of. Wait for the charges to be brought, THEN come up with the explanation.
Besides, you never know, she may just like it!
Good luck brother!
