I'll bite. I'd submit that both Lewis BBQ in SC and Socks Love in GA are my two favorites I've ever had in either. I've lived in both for a number of years and Lewis is the best I've ever tasted. I've seen Socks rubs posted here before as well. That's where he got his start and recently opened up the restaurant in Cumming.Large Egg circa '06 model.

@frazzdaddy Gosh, going back 30+ years, I lived in West Palm Beach, but frequently returned home to Maryland - being young and poor, that meant driving. Whenever possible there was a stop along the way at The Georgia Pig. One time I picked up a sack of pulled pork sandwiches and drove them all the way back to WPB - of course they were totally soggy, but still quite delicious. Come to think of it, that was my first exposure to true pulled pork.frazzdaddy said:

I was a junior guy working at a bank in the heart of Palm Beach. Most of the senior guys were Florida “good ole boys” - they raved about TGP, so of course I had to go. Oh, and “shack” is correct - this was no faux shack...frazzdaddy said:

Brisket - Looked excellent and I was excited when I saw it. Went downhill fast. Roast beef rubbery texture and a nasty acrid smoke taste. Very salty.
Sausage - Best meat of the four hands down. Tasted similar to Conecuh. Well cooked and juicy.
Pulled Pork - Not very good. Dry,stringy, tough and bland. Hard chunks of BBQ. It definitely tasted like the cheapest pork they could find. We left most of it on the tray.
Turkey - Not very good, we barely touched it. No flavor, boring, weird texture.
The sides were better than the protein. We had fire roasted creamed corn, squishy squash casserole and mac and cheese. All were solid. The squash picked up a little too much smoke but it was good.
Conversation from the meal:
”The law of diminishing returns is really kicking in here”
”What’s the deal with the potato bread? Old school white bread or nothing.”
“Does this place even have a real smoker?”
”No ribs in this place?”
“Ribs probably take up too much space in their electric smoker”
“They don’t skimp on the quantity like other places with a multi meat plate”
“They have some good sides. Good sides
help make a BBQ joint. The sides are covering for the meats here”

I hit up Community Q in Decatur, GA today. That’s the go to place when our group is working at Emory. Community Q is solid joint and is consistent. Brisket is probably a tie with Heirloom Market for the best in the metro. Had a brisket sandwich, mac and cheese, and blueberry ginger bread pudding today. Excellent as always. Give this place a try over that debacle that I had yesterday.

I know this list is nothing but a political reach-around because they listed Gartlingburg as the best BBQ in Tennessee. Look at this hot garbage.
