Looking for a Mini. Possible Pitbarrel or smobot partial trades.

As the title says. A mini, not a mini max. I’d like to keep it in the camper. Damn things are $400 new and I just can’t swing that. I have a PitBarrel with all the accessories for a partial trade or a twice used Smobot if interested. Or maybe I’ll sell both and just buy a damn new mini. Any interest??

  • It’s such a great grill I don’t blame you. I lucked out when @lkapigian gifted me one ... keep looking and I am sure you’ll fine one needing a home

Surprised here...trading a lot of cooking volume with the PBC for a mini.  Hopefully it works out but in my time around here mini owners are quite possessive.  Best of luck.

Ha.  I just read something very similar on FB.

    What are your storage options?

We are looking at downsizing from a fifth wheel to travel trailer.  I would probably have no place for the mini max at that point.

  • I have two, and briefly considered your offer. One sits at work on my desk and is used twice a year. But people get a kick out of it, mostly me tho I guess. I’d just buy a new one if I were you from the proceeds of your sale(s).

Since you're looking for cooker to take on the road, I’m going to throw the idea of a mini UDS (modded Smokey Joe). I made one several years ago, but haven’t fired it up in a while (shame on me). It’s a nifty lil cooker.

It would stay in the front storage compartment in our trailer. Likely take the place of the weber q. Mind me asking the reasoning downsizing to a tt? My wife wants a fiver, but I am campaigning hard for an Airstream. (not successfully i might add).

@cookingdude555 thanks, selling both and purchasing new might be an option, but I figured I'd throw this post up to see if anyone might be tired of their mini first.

@lousubcap I do love the PitBarrel but unfortunately I just don't use it much anymore.

I have had searches on many resale sites in place for several years. One thing I will say, you just don’t see people selling them very often.

I haven't made one myself but recall seeing some write ups on virtual bullet:

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

@YukonRon the link posted above pretty much says it all.

I drilled holes in the bottom of the pot, instead of cutting it out, so the pot can be used for storage in between cooks. Also added 3 levels for grates and diffuser. There's also a grommet with a screw on cap for temp probes. My SJ has the dampers on the sides, so no issue with getting clogged by ash, as such.

PM me if you want other details. I've already hijacked enough =)

I love a fifth wheel.  I feel it is the best option for what we're doing.  We don't like having two vehicles running around the country. (We don't all fit in the dually). Also coordinating stops, overnights,  etc is challenging.

We are also going part time on the road now.  We are working at a campground this summer.  It comes with a house for us to call home base.
