Like Nola, I carry a Benchmade 940 for EDC. It is my general purpose knife. It cuts things that need to be cut. Boxes, zip ties, caution tape etc.DoubleEgger said:Serious question. Why do you guys carry a knife like this? Is it for protection or simply cutting things and opening boxes? I see a lot of guys carrying knifes around and the only time I see them being used if a mechanic is trying to pick a door lock to get into a machinery space.
For work, I carry the Benchmade in my back pocket and have a small karambit tucked between my taser and magazine carrier for if the need arises.Las Vegas, NV -
For a lot of sportsmen it carry’s over to our every day lives to have these tools with us.DoubleEgger said:

Besides the numerous utility uses it doesn’t run out of ammo either and pairs with my Glock nicely.Jacksonville FL -
Was a Boker guy for 30 years. My son bought me a Benchmade, and I love it. Sold all my Bokers.

I feel like I left my cell phone at home without an EDC. It has nothing to do with personal protection and everything to do with cutting boxes, zip ties, food, cryovac packaging, opening beers and being a general purpose tool that can save your ass.______________________________________________I love lamp..

I've had a pocket knife since I was a wee lad. So over 40 years now. I just don't feel right without one either in my pocket or on my belt. Doesn't matter that I'm in the IT field. I have some William Henry blades (from before they became crazy priced and more art blades). One has carbon fiber handles with a titanium liner (liner lock) and that's all besides the blade. Crazy light. So much that it's easy to forget you have it on you.
I do like how easy it is to open the leek blade. Plus I have it wicked sharp now.

I use my much cheaper CRKT something to cut syringe tips, catheters, and gastrostomy tubes at work. Even my thumb, on one occasion. A surgeon colleague stitched it up very nicely, and I’m more careful nowDoubleEgger said:Serious question. Why do you guys carry a knife like this? if you catch a fish in maine and keep it, you need to immediately kill it or lose your license. i usually have one on the dashboard for work around the boat and a swiss handy mostly for the scissors for line cutting etc. oh, and theres an every day carry axe in the rover for moving downed trees and cutting dented fenders off the vehicleDoubleEgger said:

I went and looked at a benchmade crooked river and mini crooked river. Glad I did it’s a really nice knife but even the mini is way larger than I want to carry everyday. Was told Cabela’s has a good selection might swing by there tomorrow.

No knives for her. She finally got her cast off a week ago and started physical therapy. Crazy part she went to the ER where they said there was nothing they could do and put 3 stitches in it until she could see a specialist. The ER visit cost more than the surgery to repair the tendon. ER submitted $6k to my insurance what a joke.johnmitchell said:

I have to to agree brother. Medical care in the US has became nothing more than legal robbery. It is really sad that most people’s biggest fear is having to get medical care because more often than not when you step through the doors you are bankrupt or financially destroyed.Lit said:The ER visit cost more than the surgery to repair the tendon. Eventually I’ll get a benchmade but I’ve been rocking a handmade knife we gave my grandpa a few years ago before he passed away. I like the bone color. Blade was made in Jacksonville AL. I’m also fond of the geber gator knives, a little big for pocket carry but I always have one in my blind bag.

It’s nuts, my injectable medication I take every three months is over $13k. Insurance covers it to $300 but I actually end up only paying a $5 copay. Over $50k a year that I actually pay $20 for. Thank goodness for my PPO plan but what a screwed up billing system!SGH said:
