I met people from every corner of this country, as well as a few from other countries, that for me, is a major part why we enjoy these festivals.
The concessions are killer. They serve a roasted sausage with slaw and instead of chili, they used a bbq based sauce made with cracklins.
The pulled pork bbq sammies are pretty good, too.
The music has been great, some new stuff as well as traditionals. Nothing is left behind on stage, by those that are performing.
My Beautiful Wife and I have been going to outdoor events like these for years, and we may have seen all the reoccurring multiday events, which are offered across the country.
That being said, when we relocate for retirement, this is the one we will miss most. Not because it is 3 miles from our home, not at all. It truly is the premier, multiday, music festival going.
If you are into this insanity, as we are, this has to be on your bucket list."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

So true. Last year, the rain turned the entire venue in to a mud pit. Ankle deep in some places.lousubcap said:Better to be lucky than good any day! The weather gods are all in with B&B this time around. I should offer something about enjoyment but that is beyond a given...
This year The Sun Shine Bright. There were many ill prepared for the sun, and left early with painful looking sun exposure. Wear a hat. I saw many ladies wearing derby hats, which was kind of cool.
Cloudless skies today in the mid 90⁰s is the forecast. There will be several more today, taking one for the team, I am sure saw a couple folks take a fall.

The bands playing on Friday night seemed to be in disbelief of the crowd size for a Friday. I would not be surprised if the total did not exceed 200,000 in attendance for the 3 days.saluki2007 said:Enjoy the experience Ron. Well the line up is kind of awesome. Kurt Vile on the third line of Sunday’s line up tells you how deep the quality is!YukonRon said:

The entire line up Friday was certainly far better in performance, than I previously anticipated. By Far.blind99 said:

Got this, we were a couple hundred feet away at this point, the crowd was already over 50,000 @ 3:00. We got to the front, after buying a cider and 4x pour of Old Forrester. They had EW, OF, MM, and WDO in the VIP tent as bartender well pours.
They had that Tennessee sweet water too. Never got touched."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

@YukonRon B&B is certainly on my festival bucket list, and agree that these bands are actually competitive as hell and the multi day festival enhances that-- they don't want to be shown up so they bring it.
Interestingly, there are a lot of bands doing both B&B and Pilgrimage Fest in Franklin, TN this weekend. One day I wont have so many kids at home and I'll be able to catch more shows......

This is the first of 3 events put on in Louisville in successive weekends by the sa.e production company. B and B is the premier of the three due to its tie in with the Bourbon Industry.TTC said:@YukonRon B&B is certainly on my festival bucket list, and agree that these bands are actually competitive as hell and the multi day festival enhances that-- they don't want to be shown up so they bring it.

Another bourbon festival, and perhaps the one bourbon aficionadoes should put on their list, held down in Bardstown Ky. Bill Murray frequents the events and buys a sL load of bourbon, barrels and country hams, each visit.
In Kentucky, contry ham is like wine, certain years and certain regions offer different tastes, a really interesting experience if you have not tried the "Ham Flights.""Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

That was Joan Jett. Last night I erroneously posted she was 66. She is 61. Same age as Robin and I.
Air conditioning is available in the VIP areas. But, everybody rolls in there. We just let the stage give us the shade, being up front.
420 there 24/7 all 3 days."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

Allison Krause brought in a tremendous crowd of folks.
It was a day of artists sitting in for a couple of songs with just about every group.
A lot of fun on stage and for the crowds too.

If they did, it was during Robert Plant's end of set. We left about 3/4 way of his set.northGAcock said:

I am good. Stayed home mostly with My Beautiful Wife. Turns out, less than 3 miles from the venue, you can hear the music from our house, plainly.
So, I thought, since I was around the house, listening to the music, while keeping Suze off her repaired knee.....why not a long L&S smoke for ribs, while throwing back bourbon, and listening to ZZ TOP?
I would have been doing the same thing there, minus cooking some ribs.
Doing logistical support for the others, and just now settling in for some Browns and Rams.
What a Great, GREAT time. We will be doing this the remaining years we have here in Louisville.
This is a show you should experience once."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

would have been very appropriate for the Bellamy Bros. to have been there and played their hit song "Old Hippy"...just imo of course
Owensboro, KY. First Eggin' 4/12/08. Large, small, 22" Blackstone and lotsa goodies. -
We met several while there. There is just something extremely fun and nostalgic watching a VW bus pull up, watch them set up, pull out the canopy, cooler and chairs, turning up the "Dead" and watch them party before going in, with walkers and canes.🙂Ike said:would have been very appropriate for the Bellamy Bros. to have been there and played their hit song "Old Hippy"...just imo of course
The place was an excellent representation of everyone. Nothing stupid happened, security was tight. Really fine job in every aspect, considering the crowds, on all 3 days.
The camping area was massive. Those who camped had the best access to the event and it was really nice being able to go back and forth anytime you needed. I am thinking of renting an RV for those 3 days next year.
There is absolutely no way to pick out the best show in this line up. Two of the coolest shows had to be The Flaming Lips, and the Night Sweats accompanied by The Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
Every show had their fans and tens of thousands of them were right there for them every second.
We will be going back.
If there is one thing about Kentucky, we have a month long party starting in April, which does not end until Sunday, the day after the first Saturday in May, better known as the Kentucky Derby.
There are people here who have become excellent hosts, and have advanced degrees on how to have a great time.
And some of them have a BGE.
You have been invited."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber
