Quality declines were not Chrysler unique. Every American manufacturer made sh!tty cars by the late 70s and especially the 80s. Customers flocked to the reliability of the Japanese cars and most never came back.rifrench said:
We might still have station wagons! Crickets were bad enough, and then came Reliants and Aries K cars. Chrysler should have been allowed to die a natural death. -
Yeah, Dad wasn't happy when I bought a Nissan 300ZX in the 80's. Told him I wanted a car that would last...DoubleEgger said:

I agree, but 25 recalls on one pickup in the mid 90's, and oil leaks related to bad head gaskets on 4 cylinder engines the factory wouldn't fix free?DoubleEgger said:

I hated to see the station wagon disappear.
I'm done with this, peace.

I love that there are two separate conversations intertwined in this thread. There is a flame war with the trolls on one hand, and a discussion of Lee Iacocca’s legacy with Ford and Chrysler on the other.

How did Chrysler do so bad in the late 70’s & early ‘80’s? They had Kahn pitching Cordobas with rich Corinthian Leather! Did they run out of leather?

@Botch - I resemble that remark as being old I grabbed one of the first 15K original 240Z's in 1971. Only new car I have ever owned. Drove it like I stole it and it was about the most reliable car I had. Replaced an oil pressure switch at around 25 K miles and besides the routine preventive maintenance that was it.But in keeping with my heritage I have never bought a car model or brand that I previously owned. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint. -
