OT - Famous Dave BBQ Burnt Butt Plate
I am in Las Vegas for a few days this week--work related. I took an Uber ride to my hotel well off the strip (Summerlin area) and to my surprise the nearest restaurant is Famous Dave BBQ. Of course, I couldn't resist so I went in and sampled a plate. Below is a snapshot of my plate, sorry if it's a little blurry. It is a photo of a rather tasty new dish on the menu--the 'Burnt Butt Plate'. I must say I was fairly impressed with the flavor and for $12.99 I didn't think it was too bad of value, but I am from Alaska where prices are a little high as far as restaurants go. Everything on the plate was good. The fries, corn bread, and the beans were very good (I wish I had his recipe for beans). So, I know we have some Las Vegas Eggers on the forum so they may have a completely different take than yours, truly, but for an outsider just fresh into town I plan on going back this week for sure to sample up some other dishes.
TIP: The cornbread is even better when you realize it is in cupcake paper and you peel it off so you stop eating the paper. (I'm an idiot.)

Where are you staying, Red Rock? There are certainly better BBQ places in Vegas. I would urge you to step outside of BBQ while you are here, the are some awesome spots off Strip.

I am not on at a Casino. I am staying within walking distance of Famous Dave. This particular location is right across from Molly's Casino maybe on Rainbow Drive? Anyway, I don't have a car rental so I will have to Uber it but what would you recommend?

You might catch some flack for it being Famous Daves. If you liked it that's all what matters. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'd have no problem throwing that back. I'd take Battleborn advice since he's from the area for some other good eats.

Honestly, you probably aren't staying in the best area. I patrol not too far from there. An Uber ride to Palace Station (there is a pretty good seafood/ sushi spot there) or to China Town would be reasonable. There are some good spots in the Summerlain area that are good as well.

Yeah, I seem to recall seeing 'Dave' on one of the BBQ shows before. It's been a while but I seem to recall him being a little over the top. I did enjoy the meal.

Understood @Battleborn . I won't press my luck by hoofing it after dark. Thank you for that, and for the Palace Station recommendation.

One more thing,@Battleborn . I appreciate what you do. Thank you. And you stay safe.

I don't want to misrepresent it, it isn't awful, but it isn't the best. Right across the freeway is one of the hotspots in town, but I know a few coworkers that live there.
An Uber ride to Summerlin is only like 6-7 miles and is one of the best areas in town. Scenic Brewing Company is new there and supposed to be pretty good. I have not been yet though. If you need anything while here, PM me and I will be as much help as I can.

I've heard nothing but great things about Dave himself. I have a friend that has been over to his house. A very nice down to earth guy. He lost control of his business when it went from private to public. The board kept pushing and opening restaurants as fast as possible.
Dave now owns and operates a small bbq restaurant in Wisconsin where it all first started. Back to the basics of BBQ. One of these days I'd like to go and check it out. I think it might be a fun trip over to Wisconsin

Okay, @Battleborn . Thank you, again. I will PM you to take the mystery out of my precise whereabouts.

My favorite restaurant in the Summerlin area is a farm to table place called Honey Salt.
It was pretty legit at the time and was a hidden gem when we found it.
-
@U_tarded I checked out Honey Salt's menu and it looks great. I might have to check it out and will be sure to report back if I do. Thank you very much!

Yes, it’s been several years since I’ve been but we were looking for a lunch place on mother’s day and it was like 2 hr waits everywhere. The weather was bad but got nice and we were able to sit on their patio and were very surprised with what we found. A couple of weeks ago my hippy sister in law saw it on Instagram and knows we are somewhat foodies and told us to go there and I was like we have been and I had kind of forgot about it.

Honey Salt is legit, it is also close to you via ride share.

Well, it looks like I'm all set then. Between @Battleborn and @U_tarded I have a few great leads. I am going to check on at least a couple of them for sure. This site is great for this sort of thing! I appreciate it.

Thanks, good to learn backstories like this. Our local one took a pretty bad nosedive a few years back, now I may understand why.

My recollection of Famous Dave's was at the old Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha. It so happens that it was the last year the CWS was played there before they tore it down. I was there for an early college world series game, that had several long rain delays. Famous Dave's was one of the concession stands under the stadium, and i sat my big ol butt on one of there empty pickle barrels they had set outside of the door. I was fortunate as my buddy and I were one of the few who had a place to squat. Now a Famous Dave's pickle is not the most comfortable seat in the world......but we were d@mn glad to have them.....and the sandwich at the time.....was not bad for concession food in a rain delay.
By the way, my Cocks ended up loosing to Oklahoma in that game....but fought back thru the looser bracket to take the Natty. Had a great time out there.

They look really good. I was curious and looked up the menu. They are pork butt burnt ends that are flash fried. Those have to be pretty good!
Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -
Truthfully, I thought they were quite good. I'm really glad I posted it now as I've learned the backstory and also picked up a few more restaurant / casino leads. Can't beat that.

I had always heard that Dave was/is an egger.
-
Yep. I believe he's @BigGreenDave here.
