Take the battery cover off and submerge in rice. I give it a 10% chance of working.
Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -
Before you do the rice, soak it in a container of distilled water first.
No mineral deposits in distilled water to short out the electronics after it dries.
This is how they recover water damaged phones.

Sorry man. Time to get the Javelin. Swarm!
-
I have thermapens too..... :)
You ready for the fb500 yet?
-
Call Thermoworks and see if they can rebuild it for you. Prices are reasonable from what I have read here in the past, and will likely be less than buying a refurbished one.
Or get a Javelin. They're pretty good.

Mine sat out in the rain for like 2 weeks before I realized it. Wasn’t working but after a couple days it started again. I wish it would die so I could get the backlit one.
-
I have the backlit one and it’s not that great. Maybe they’ve improved the backlight in more recent versions. I’m hoping it will die as well so I can get a Javelin. I pretty much use the Pop exclusively these days as it actually works every time.

I might just get a javelin. Not having it backlit kinda sucks.

Javelin et al from Lavatools 15% discount code egghead.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Just ordered one this morning for my Father in Law.
With discount it was $45.90 and free shipping.
I know there are better deals time to time but still worth every penny.

Let it dry out for a month or two.
One of my Javelin Pro's was left outside for awhile and was submerged from rain. I tried the rice trick for a week or so with partial success - it would start up but the LCD display was still not working right.
I just set it aside and ordered another one. A month or so after I got the new one I was going to save the batteries out of the "dead one" and the damn thing lit right up and was working fine. There was a bit of dried residue under the LCD cover lens but that isn't a problem in actual usage. Your Thermapen may also have a chance to recover given enough time.

My thermapen died so I called thermapen. I mailed it to them to get repaired, but it was beyond repair. They gave me a huge discount on a new one. 😁
I think it's time for another beer!

Sad.
That being said, I can’t imagine not noticing something the size and heft of a Thermapen in my pocket when throwing clothing into the wash.
”Is that an MK4 in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?”
-
If it isn't MK8 sized, it's probably my thermapen.

I would give it a month or two before throwing it out. Mine sat in the bottom of the full sink for 20 minutes or more. I put it in rice for a few days, then left it on the counter for a month or two out laziness. Put a battery in it for kicks and it still works today. Its been fully submerged one other time after that and it still works.
-
Ran my thermapen through the dishwasher like an idiot. Works fine.

Maybe that’s the problem with my Thermapens, I need to toss them in water and then rice and then let them sit on the counter for a month or so. My original is still working fine, the other two looked just like yours without ever seeing water. Absolute POS.
Javelins are working fine and the ambidextrous back light is a nice feature.

I have a few year old thermopen that only displays if I squeeze it just right.
I have a year old jav pro that says IP65 splash resistant but one quick splash to rinse it and it never worked again.

It was in a laundry basket I just dumped into the machine

You have demonstrated exactly why I am not allowed to do laundry. I act offended, but I am freed from doing laundry, which I hate more than cleaning pots and pans.

That's funny, same here.
My original Gen 1 is still working fine. My 2 newer models I have to open and close so many times and stop at just the right place to make them work. My Jav Pro lives stuck to the side of my fridge next to the back door. Just grab it and 3 steps to my Eggs. Always works the first time.

Wow, tracking shows it will arrive today. Not only free shipping but fast shipping.

According to Wilma, I don’t wash clothes right, dry them right or fold them right. I was even trying to do it right too. So she does the laundry.
I don’t make up the rules, I just enjoy them.
