Temp control without WIFI

Are there any of the temperature controllers that work without WiFi?
I do most of my Egging at the lake and there is barely cellphone service.

I think most will work without the WiFi even if it is a WiFi Controller, I know my Stoker will

BBQ Guru DigiQ DX2. I don't use it often these days (would rather turbo cook  and not bother with a crutch). It works just fine, no wifi. Never saw a need for wifi anyway.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

  • I really like the auber.    I wanted best controller without all the bells and whistles.   It does not have WiFi
  • I just can't bring myself to trust a turbo cook LOL
Perhaps I will bite the bullet and give it a try

You don’t need a controller.  Just learn your egg and it will be fine.  Recently I held 180ish to dry some peppers for 25ish hrs with no controller.

Not sure if they’re still available or not but I use flame boss 100 for that sole reason. I didn’t want WiFi.

I read ”Trump control”. Trying to figure out why...
  • Look at the Flameboss 300. It is the best of all worlds.

  • They’re called the top vent and lower vent.  ;)

Low tech is the best temp control, in my books.
I agree 100 Percent.  But I am weighing the convenience of putting a brisket on the egg and enjoying the lake vs the satisfaction of a perfectly controlled manual cook.  LOL

That's what controllers are made for. I have never felt that being tied to your cooker for 18 hours is somehow manly or makes for a better cook. Anyone that tells you that they can walk away from their Egg for 18 hours after getting the temp settled is stretching the truth a bit. Well more than a bit.
  • I'm pretty certain the Smobot will work without WiFi.  You'll just set the temp manually on the controller itself but it doesn't rely on internet connectivity to control the temp.

DigiQ DX2 - and YES - you can set and walk away for an entire cook (as long as you're in earshot of the alarm).  Just make sure there's enough lump and you're golden.

Looks like the flameboss 100 is still available, although it looks like it will be discontinued.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

I'd second (or third) the FlameBoss 100. I've had one since they came out (I even still have the original Flame Boss that the owner sent me to try out and review before it was available to the public). It does all I need it to without any of the bells and whistles and I believe its on sale for $150.

  • I use a Auber WI-FI. It works with or without WI-FI, no problem.

I'm in the Smobot  camp, just don't use the wifi.
The problem with a problem is that you don't know it's a problem until it's a problem, and that is a big problem.
