Pasta Maker

If she has her heart set on this, you should consider this. Maybe look at second hand shops, Goodwill, or SA. They will often time have these things with not use on them.ryantt said:So Norah Grace has been asking for a pasta maker for sometime and I honestly do not know which one to order for her. They range in price greatly, but I have no idea what makes one better than another. Any suggestions on who makes a good one? I have read that the ones for her mixer aren’t that great.
Thanks in advance for the assistance.
This is the one my wife is thinking.
If she is open to suggestion (I see she has a KA mixer), you should consider this route.

So I have a drying rack but I’ve never used it. Not trying to say it’s not important - but what is the best use for it...so that I can pull it out in the future.DFW - 1 LGBE & Happy to Adopt More...

@dannys she just wants a pasta maker. She’s not set on a type or brand, this is just one my wife and I found today and thought I’d seek advice.XL BGE, KJ classic, Joe Jr, UDS x2

Heh, my last 2 years in college ('81-'83) my roommate and I could get this for $2.99/12-pack (I won't say how many we bought a week). It was fine then...DoubleEgger said:

Plus-Eleventy-million. I used coat hangars, and dowels across kitchen chairs, and the grid out of my oven, to dry pasta, none of them worked worth crap. This ^^^ device, is a godsend.
And here I really embarrass myself: it wasn't very handy pulling the pasta strands off those rods, I finally cut a length of dowel to slip just under the rods, between the hanging pasta, to lift the pasta off. That worked ok, but after three years of ownership I happened to lift up on the top (the clear blue plastic), and realized it was a built-in rod, "D"-shaped in cross-section, that worked perfectly to lift the pasta off! d'OH!!“I'll have what she's having."

This is exactly my experience. The kitchenaid works great!Botch said:What mixer does she have? I gave up on my Atlas and went with the Kitchenaid attachment, haven't looked back.
The Atlas worked okay, but as @Ikapigian mentioned, it requires three hands. Also, the countertop clamp is (imnsho) very poorly designed, comes loose all the time, and didn't fit my countertop at first (had to mod it). Finally, there's not a lot of clearance for the pasta to exit on the crank machines; with the Kitchenaid, you have about a foot and makes handling much easier. In the bush just East of Cambridge,Ontario -

Very good read and video @Carolina Q. One quick question for the group if I may, can some one tell me if it is possible to boil water on the egg so we can make this an egg cook?XL BGE, KJ classic, Joe Jr, UDS x2

I assume this is an innocent question. There is some history here re: that query.

@calking I was trying to make a joke about cooking everything on the egg, perhaps it was in bad tastes. So I will apologize for that.XL BGE, KJ classic, Joe Jr, UDS x2

Skip the drying rack. If I'm making pasta to save, I make nests. Much easier to store, though they can take more than 24 hours to dry. I use the Atlas with no problem (and I also use it to make crackers), but I can understand the ease of the KA. The Vetri book is fantastic; he's a true master.*******Owner of a large and a beloved mini in Philadelphia
