Broken BGE cast iron??

Anyone ever had this happen to their cast iron grate? I was cooking burgers in the mini-max when I heard a crack.,,,opened up the egg and found this. 

I’ve only had it 2-3 months and used it 4 times. Think this is covered as it’s a genuine BGE grid.

    Not sure why no one had answered you, but as a first time buyer who has registered your egg then that is a warranted item. BTW the reason that happened is the very design flaw... When heated, cast iron - which actually is a soft metal - expands but that outer circle restricts that heat expansion because it is colder then breakage occurs.

    Thanks Ron. I’ll be contacting my BGE Dealer tomorrow.

    Odd question.....would bands be covered under the same premise? The bands on mine are slightly warped and difficult to get everything sealed up.

    It’s covered. I’ve had several replaced. Broke so many large CI grids I just stopped bothering to get them replaced. I bought a small grid to use on my large bge spider. It lasted for a few years but eventually cracked as well. The large CI Grid cracked every few months.

    Hmmm.. I have 2 XL, my cast iron grate has more of a pin hole pattern, I bought them in 2015, I wonder if they change the design, perhaps for the worse?
